Slaving DP5.12 to TC from Camera - ProTools Friendly

Post by thinkof1 »

Hi all,

I will be recording a concert soon and I'll need to record 4 ch. of audio into DP while slaved to TC from a camera. I'll be using the 828 mkII. How easy should this be to pull off, assuming that I can most likely avoid any real headaches?
I believe the cameras won't be shooting constantly, so does DP automatically stop and start with the cameras while it's slaved to external sync? The other thing is that they wanted me to use ProTools, but don't have it (oh, and I'm spoiled by DP's ease of use), so what files do I need to give them, besides the 4 stems (all the same length), so that they can import them into Protools with the audio and TC sync?

Thanks a million for any help, and I do appreciate all of the experienced and helpful contributors to this board!

DP 5.12
MOTU 828 mkII
Macbook Pro 2.4ghz 4GB Ram

When DP is slaved to external sync, it will start & stop as it receives timecode. However, make sure you check the "Record while still-framed" option in the Receive Sync prefs page – if you don't, when timecode starts a second time and DP begins rolling again, it will just play and not record.

Nice, thanks. Do you know how the TC data can be transferred along with the audio from DP to ProTools?

I think the audio files should be properly timestamped as you record, yes, but I personally haven't verified it.
