8pre won't run

Hi!

My computer runs with XP Pro SP2, an AMD X2 6000+, an nVidia-chipset on the mainboard and 3 GB of RAM. Firewire chipset is from TI.

I have received my new 8pre yesterday. As I use a Traveler for two years on my PC and my notebook I thought there wouldn't be any problems installing the 8pre. I attached the second firewire port of the Traveler to one firewire port of the 8pre and got a new "Motu Audio" item in my hardware manager.
But when I tried to start my sequencer (Reaper, Cubase LE, Sonar LE) the program crashed at startup with an error in mfwaasio.drv. On my notebook (still XP SP2) the programs will crash, too, but give me an "exception error" an a memory address at startup.
I tried with only the Traveler connected and everything worked fine.
Also I tried with only the 8pre connected, the programs still crashed at startup.

Anyone an idea what happens here?

YOu should run the install disk for the 8pre prior to plugging in for the first time...They actually explicit instructions on this because of some issues...

I realize you already have a MOTU device installed, so I dont know what firewire drivers your using...but I would remove the 8pre completely from your system...reboot...run the install disk...THAN physically plug in the 8pre.

Good luck.

Hi!

I've done as you said, but it didn't change anything.
I've removed the drivers, restarted the PC, installed the disk, plugged in the 8pre, started the sequencer and... crash. :-(

when you have just the 8pre attatched, does the CueMix and the MOTU audio setup open up and work as you would expect???

It sounds like some kinda wierd driver conflict...

You wont be able to run the 8pre and the traveler simutaniously via firewire and ASIO...that could cause you some problems as well...

That's not right, as you can read on Motu website that is possible, that's the reason why I bought an 8pre instead of another pre-amp device.
But also when I connect the both just via ADAT the Traveler doesn't receive any signal from the 8pre.

Sounds to me like you have a defective 8pre unit...

The problem is SP2

Lemon,
See my new message post relating how I finally had success running 4 8Pre's. The secret seemed to be 2 things: WinXP Service Pack 1, and a PCI Firewire card (not the motherboard FW port).

Hope it helps!
