I've never even opened a widget, Magilla.
Somehow, disabling them in the name of DP-smoothness prudence has won out every time.

Now, you've got me thinking and tempted.
Yup, methinks I'll try this one; thank you! :D

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O

Super relaxing. As far as disabling the widgets, I needed to do that in Panther, but Tiger doesn't seem to mind. All totaled, my widgets take up 4-7% of my processor. Not going to make a big difference.

On your recommendation, this will be my first widget! it looks cool. Like monkey, I always shied away for fear of cpu drainage.
Macbook pro, 3 gigs of ram, osx 10.62, Dp 5.13, Live 8.1.2, Reason 4, Tc powercore Virus, Albino 3.02, proper ergonomic sitting posture, plenty of coffee (french press only with a pinch of cardamon added)
My dp inspired music.....

Josh, it's not just CPU; apparently widgets use a lot of RAM and virtual RAM.

Can't zip the file or a folder containing the file for some reason. :?
Crashes the Finder every time.

is it using ram regardless of the amount of widgets or does the amount of ram go up upon more widgets? will dp 6 fix this

After 20 minutes I'll say it's not bad. I actually prefer the "old school" way I do it by turning on my electric tambura, as well as desk top water fountain and consuming 300% more electricity!

Don't know, Josh.
I read somewhere that hundreds of MBs are used though.

I've always used the following Terminal instructions or a little app (which I can't now find - must have been PPC):

To turn Dashboard off:
# defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
To turn Dashboard on:?# defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO
You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:?# killall Dock

I never liked the idea of dashboard not having an "on/off" button!

While I was being sarcastic. It would almost be cool if DP 6 had an "optimize your system for DAW" utility app that could do such things as turn off dash, and other cpu draining events on command from dp........am I reaching here?

Hey, why not?
You'd think, provided it worked, that almost all users would appreciate having the guesswork taken out of performance tweaking.

Sorry I missed your previous post. :D

Please try the commands and see if they work for you.
I used to keep them handy as a text file in the dock for cutting and pasting.
They've been turned off for so long now, I'd forgotten they existed.
I tend to turn 'em off after major OS upgrades, and that's it. :D

if you don't ever hit f12, dashboard doesn't get loaded into memory. if you acidentally hit f12, then you might want to quit it out. you could always just unmap f12 to launch dashboard, and there you go. in the UNIX world, background processes don't use cpu cycles unless they are active.

by the way, the guy who wrote that widget was a professor of mine back in the day...he introduced my to DP, and taught me all I know about MIDI production.

it's a fun widget!
