Hi there - I have bad problems: Logic (7.2.1) very often crashed on my Mac (Intel iMac G5 MacOS 10.4.6). About ervery 30 minutes - uuh, that
s*cks.... The crashes were very bad, somtimes the logic files were damaged after that, or I had to pull off the power plug from the mac....

I think, the problem is the Motu MIDI Express 128 (USB powered) and its MIDI driver. Up to now I used Motu MIDI driver 1.32 >>> problems see above.

Then I downloaded a newer driver (1.36) from Motu - hopefully that works better - but: I can‘t install it! Although the Mac gives a "installation succesful", the MIDI Express 128 does not appear in the audio-MIDI.configuration. I tried so several times - useless. Sometimes the MIDI Express is marked "grey" = inactive.

After that I re-installed the older driver again. The midiexpress is shown again in the audio-MIDI-configuration.....but now logic has no MIDI at all.

what driver do I need?
why did the driver 1.32 not work properly?
why is installation of driver 1.36 not possible?
and, most of all - how can I get now a GOOD working system??

Yes, I checked usb-ports and cables, yes i removed other USB devices (printer), yes, and i removed all other MIDI devices from the MIDI interface. Even in "stand-alone" (only Mac and midiexpress 128) there were the crashes.....

One thing: please clarify your hardware-- G5 is PPC, but MacPros have the Intel chips.

Run the Project Manager to relink all media to your projects.

Check your crash logs to see what file(s) are causing the crash. When in doubt, always send that info to Apple.

Try using the Setup Wizard again for a fresh start, then try loading your MIDI and audio into a new Logic project.

File corruption is possible over time. Use the Apple Disk Utility to run a full repair and verification of both permissions and the hard drives. If running it from the hard drive itself can't fix the issue, try booting from the most recent OSX install disc you have. The Disk Utility will be found in one of the menus at the top of the screen, so ignore the prompts to install OSX when they appear-- (and keep your forearm away from the ENTER key!!). Always save a copy of the fix details for future reference.

A third-party disk utility may go further if Apple's Disk Utility doesn't solve the problem where repairing directories and forks need to be done.

Are there reasons not to go to Logic 7.2.3 or to a later version of OSX? There may be good reasons why 7.2.3 is available. I would suggest at least trying 10.4.8. It's free and it just may offer some additional system refinements. Neither would there be any harm in uninstalling/reinstalling audio and MIDI drivers.

Check your plugins folders for expired demos-- delete them! They can still interfere even if they are not actively being used. DAWs "register" plugins at boot up, and an expired demo's security method of blocking the use of it after a certain date can cause crashes and even kernel panics.

The other thing to consider if the above are not options is to restore your current configuration to its original glory when all was working well.
