Not sure if I can - Mach2.0 DVD copy

Hello - First off I must say I'm totally against piracy and I'm not suggesting that this is piracy or even legal:

I've had a few people pm me to ask if I could make them a copy of my 2.0 DVD because the one they have is 2.01

Is this even legal? I'm happy to help fellow unicornies, but I must say I'm not sure where this falls...

Technically people bought a 2.0 upgrade not a 2.01 update, right?

Anyhoo - just thought I'd mention it... and I have not done anything...

MOTU always ships the base version of their software products initially at x.0, but as updates arrive, the DVDs are printed with the latest version as the base installation.
At least, I think this is the case.

RC, I wouldn't do the copy if I were you.

you can't use it without an ilok, so what's the big deal? you're just giving someone a different version of something they legally own. I think you're over thinking it.

If it's not a big deal then can we mail Motu directly to get and older build?

I just talked to MOTU about this - they said that 2.0 isn't availabe in the Mach V download section because of legal issues with Eric Persing & Spectrasonics. So, after releasing v2.0, they quickly took out the user's ability to play Atmosphere & Trilogy (and addded other enhancements as well). This is a sticky issue - I would really like 2.0, and, since MOTU sold it, and we are registered users with iLoks, it should be no problem. I'm sure Spectrasonics is OK with MOTU changing to 2.01 as quickly as they did. I don't think this would be piracy if we few on UnicorNation shared 2.0, it's not illegal - I just think they don't want it widespread. As an aside, those of us who have waited for Atmosphere & Trilogy for the last year since the advent of the Intel Mac, it would be a nice perk to have access to them a couple of months before Spectrasonics makes them Intel available anyway (they say the fall on their website). Doesn't seem like that big of a deal. All in favor?
