Macbook : What to expect in performance

I'm in the market for my first laptop and it's looking more and more like a Macbook Pro is going to be out of my budget, leading me to look at the Macbook.

I'd be running it w/ a Traveler, DP 5.12 and a small Reason rack, recording one track at a time and doing rough mixing. The only CPU-hungry plugs I'd be using are Garritan Personal Orchestra & one or two instances of AltiVerb.

I'd love to hear some feedback from people with real-world experience with this machine and a similar setup.

Thanks in advance!

hi mate
i did a little test on my wife's Macbook (not Pro, like I'm getting..hehehe).
i posted the results in this thread:
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 1&start=15
If that link doesn't work, it's the "time to decide" thread, page 2.

I'm using an 828MkII rather than a traveller, but I wouldn't expect much of a difference. Couldn't tell you a lot about plugins (rather than the MOTU 5.12 ones), but have a read of my test.
If you're only doing 1 track at a time I wouldn't think you would have any problems.

That machine will work nicely for the work you describe.

I run a macbook pro now, but until recently I was using a 1.2 Ghz iBook G4, 768 GB ram, recording 6-8 tracks, mixing, multiple plugs / instruments etc. Certain instruments would bog that poor ibook down, as would lots of plugs, but creative track freezing works wonders. A new Macbook will spin circles around that old ibook.
