I have a MBP with an 8pre. A friend of mine gave me some Alesis M1 620 monitors to use and I'm not sure where to put my hard drive.. I don't feel so good about having it near the monitors.

Should I not worry?

The hard drive is in a small, portable enclosure.

No, you DEFINITELY should worry: do not place your hard drive near magnets! ALL loudspeakers (except electrostatic ones) have magnets.
