Here is what I am currently using:

Intel Macbook Pro 2.0 ghz, 1 GB 667 mhz RAM
MOTU Ultralite
Nord Rack 2x
Mackie Monitors
Ableton Live 6.0.5

I am having a problem with latency when trying to record/monitor audio in from the Nord Rack or from other sources (microphones, etc). I have adjusted the latency using the preferences window to various buffer sizes so that it equals to zero or -0.01. currently i have it set to a Buffer of about 300 samples, drive error compensation of -14.8. No matter how much I adjust it, there seems to be a split second of latency. When I direct monitor the Nord Rack, there is no delay at all, and sometimes when I record, there is no latency, but the monitoring in Live shows some, and it makes it difficult to concentrate.

I also noticed that this is not so much of an issue when I first load a fresh template set with next to no audio or MIDI, but as I start to increase the number of recorded samples / channels, the latency sets in.

Is there a way to adjust the latency through the Ultralite? I am living in germany but my copy of the user manual is back in the United States. Do you have any other ideas on how to fix this issue?

hello,

- did you turn on "plugin delay compensation" in your live's options ? (one of the menus on the top of the screen, not in the preferences window...)

- you can insert some delay in your MIDI tracks, I use a virus Ti with its outs routed to ultralite. I put -12ms delays on each live MIDI track so I don't ear any delay more. (this delay correction is available with the "D" button on the bottom right part of the screen)

I let the live buffer to 512 samples so it is nice.

I'm having similar problems with Ableton. I had no problem correcting latency in Logic Express (by playing a single square wave out of logic, through my 828mkII, then recording back into logic, counting the offset to 58 samples, and setting logic's delay compensation to match). This delay is consistent regardless of buffer size, sample rate, etc. 58 samples may not seem like much, but it's audible, especially if you compound the problem by bouncing through outboard gear.

Ableton has a similar setting in it's prefs, but is set in milliseconds, not samples, so it's inherently less accurate. I've tried combinations of all the various delay settings / options in Live, but I can't get the delay corrected. Worse, the delay seems to be inconsistent.

I have "auto warp long regions" set off, plug-in delay compensation on, and the recording delay set to 1.32 milliseconds.... with no noticeable improvement in delay, and if I bounce a square wave out through the 828mkII and back into ableton, I get different offsets on each take.

I feel like I must be missing a software option somewhere. any tips?
