Tascam DA88 TDIF transfer to Cubase via 2408 mk3 + 424

Help.
I have just restored my two DA88 recorders and purchased a 2408 mk3 to enable digital transfer of 16 tracks to cubase.

The 2408 is working perfectly on analogue but I still cant transfer the digital tracks from the DA88 via TDIF.

When I try this I get a pulsing white noise sound with a hint of the audio which sounds like wayback crosstalk.

Can anyone advise what I need to do to get this transfer to happen. I would like to know if its possible without a synchroniser like the TimePiece or the Tascam SY-88 card.

thanks

Pete

Just to be sure, you're using actual TDIF cables yes? How do you have your Master/Slave configuration set? Are you using the same SampleRate and BitDepth?

Yes I'm using Tascam PW88 TDIF cables.

When you say 'master/slave' configuration are you referring to the DA88's. One machine is set to ID 'o', the second 88 is set to ID '1' and chase is enabled. The transports lock-up perfectly to the master absolute clock time generated by the formatted tape on the first machine.

The tapes were recorded at 48k. 2408 and Cubase are set the same. I'm not sure about the Cubase bitrate setting. I can check this tonight.
Is bit rate the same as bit depth?
The motu clock is set to internal.

I am in Sydney and will return to newcastle where my machines are. I hope to continue this tonight at about 10pm AEST.

many thanks mate for your assistance

I'm referring to word-clock, not the lock of the machines.

thanks

thanks heaps Brad!!

As a result of your advice I have now set the cubase to the word clock and bit rate to 16. The TDIF from the DA88 is coming in perfectly - yeeh haa!!
My next challenge is to find out if the second 88 will sync in abs and transfer so I can bring in 16 tracks simultaneously.
I need to buy Cubase 4.0 as the LE version will only allow a maximum of 8 tracks input at once.
:D :D :D
I now have to work out if I need the full cubase or the studio version.

thanks again.

As far as the first of your DA-88s is in sync with your computer card so it will be the second one.
OTOH if you are on a Mac you can crossgrade all the way to DP and be in heaven ! :D
I did the same a few years back and since then I've never looked back...
