New to Mac

I have the opportunity to start a mobile recording rig and would like to know at this point in time...
-I have 1 896 HD and 1 896 that I could chain together for 16 channels of audio. I would probably run at 48K.

Questions: -What is the middle of the road Mac laptop that wuold handle this with no problems!

-Should I just use the onboard pres or should I get maybe an A&H mixer with the direct outs into the 896s?That would give me some Eq control as opposed to an insert on recording.

-Would the supplied Audio Desk software handle organizing the audio until I got back to the studio and dumped them into my studio machine?

-Or could I just mix them in Audio Desk without using any other software, I use Cubase SX on my main machine(pc) and could load the Mac version of Cubase to the Mac and just swap the dongle key but am concerned about Cubase on the Mac(not a whole lot of people doing it on a Mac with MOTU interfaces, I already know about the workarounds having used a 2408 with Cubase on a pc for the last 4 years).

-My composer friend has an Oratorio coming up in September that he asked me to record and there have been several other inquiries to get this going. Seems like now is a good time.

Thanks to all.

Please keep in mind that Audiodesk is not Intel (UB) compatible, so you will need a G4 or G5 to run it.

Then the tech specs?

Cuttime, I hadn't even thought about that aspect thanks, and then what machine specs should I be looking for?

I would forget about AudioDesk and PPC laptops. If you already have Cubase SX for PC, but think that you want a Mac, you could install Windows onto a BootCamp partion on a Macbook or Macbook Pro and keep using it. You wouldn't be forced to learn a new OS and software in the middle of a recording session. Then if you want to see what OSX is all about, you can ease yourself into it.

-- I would not get a g4 machine today just to run Audiodesk -- the intel core 2 duo machines make them look like a commodore 64.

-- I would get a macbook core 2 duo and max the RAM. I would buy the fastest one I could afford.

-- I would then purchase the DP competitive crossgrade (you are eligible because of Audiodesk and or Cubase):
