Is it possible to bounce-to-disc while working with SONGS?

I need to being be saying how much I appreciate this forum. I've learned so much about DP and making the most of it due to the input of many of you. Can't thank you enough.

So now I've ventured into the land of SONGS & CHUNKS. Pretty cool working environment. I've gotten the hang of some things and I've gotten hung by others.

A few questions:

What's the best way to "mix" a SONG?

Is there a way to bounce to disc?

Thanks!

I'm impressed anyone can get Songs to work for them. I can't. They never playback right for me. There's always gaps and skips and collisions. I suspect it's something I'm doing wrong with start and end times, or something, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Anyway, in answer to your question: The only way I know of doing that is to highlight everything (or whatever you want) in the Song window and chose "Merge Chunks to Sequence" from the Song's mini menu. This will create a new seq. Play enable that seq in the Chunks window, open the T.O, make your output, track and time selections and bounce to disk.

I don't know how well that works with V-racks and Instruments and all that other stuff, but it's the only way I know of bouncing a song created in the Song window.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks so much for the quick & thorough reply. This is what I was looking for. I'll give it a go & let you know how I make out.

One other thing is worth mentioning. If you have automation in any of these sequences in your Song, when you make the new seq from the Song, you'll need to activate the tracks' automation again.

I'm glad you brought this topic up because I've been staying away from Chunks and Songs like the plague. But now I'm getting it to work for me. Thanks!

I really wish Songs were updated... as I could see it being useful. Years ago I asked if we could maybe even have the inclusion of a playback wiper in the Song window so you could at least see where you were.

The best implementation I saw of this idea was years ago in Studio Vision. Studio vision allowed for "subsequences" and it was a very powerful feature.

I looked all over the place for it today until I realized there wasn't a play wiper for the Song window. Huh? Why? I also tried to highlight a chunk in the Song window and select play selection, but you can't do that either. Huh? Why? So yeah, they need to improve on this for sure. They could do a lot of wonderful things with it.

One More Observation

Good discussion. I agree with all of you. I also think implementation of features like a wiper or play selection for the SONG window should come as an update to 4.61 and not require upgrade to 5.0, but I doubt that would ever happen.

I appreciate the heads-up on the automation. Really helpful to know. I also had an issue with the loss of timing on one track of the new sequence. Looks like somehow the conductor track of the new sequence has lost the tempo info I had input. Once it was reset and the conductor track was providing the tempo map to the new sequence everything locked again.

I think I'm getting to the place where chunks and songs will actually be a useful part of my work flow. As usual the issue is not ultimately the software but an incomplete understanding of the features on my part. That's where this kind of forum is so invaluable. Thank you all for helping me get the most out of this fantastic software.
