Hi All
I'm working on a soundtrack for which the producers are sending me scenes in DVD format. DP needs quicktime movies. How do I convert these to enable them in DP?
thanks

Thanks for the replies
I don't have the MPEG 2 playback component. Do I need to buy that first for either the streamclip 1.8 or the handbrake?
cheers

just try streamclip, it's free and worked great for me the other day.

Thanks.
Did give it a try.
When I try to open a file--in my case they are VOB files it gives me a blank field with a scroll bar. At various times it tells me to get the MPEG 2 component. I'm doing something wrong it seems?
Any thoughts

I'd buy the mpeg 2 component, it's not that expensive.
kind regards

MPEG 2 component is only $19.99, can be downloaded from Apple.
The trick is also to open the correct VOB files, some may appear blank, trial and error is the best bet.
kind regards

better off just using handbrake--nothing to buy as it uses MP4, which is natively supported in qt.

I second Geof, handbrake works great.

I just tell them that DVD is an unacceptable delivery format and that I expect a Quicktime file (burnt in timcode yada yada..). It generally gets results, quickly.
I refuse to waste time having to do all the messing around with pulling stuff off a DVD.

That is what I usually do but in this case the request illicited a reaction of--we'll have to do this overnight as it will take us hours to output. Thus began my quest.

I know what you mean. I've done it before in order to get working on the project while they exported the proper QT file and put it in the mail (adding an extra few days to the process).
Ripping the video off the DVD was quite easy, but I had to download an other program onto my Windows 98 PC ('ac3 tool' i think it was called) in order to get the audio into a useable format. After that, I just put my foot down.
