Hi all,
Here is a link of a composition for a video game that I am working on at the present time. It is very percussion intensive. Actually it only has percussion and winds. Take a listen, any comments are most welcomed.

Thank you for providing a direct link as opposed to a MyCrap page and thus not excluding the apester, musicarteca.
Mac G5 speaker is all I'm going by, but I like it.
It evokes a decent jungle-danger scenario along with a strong sense of a quest or mission being in progress.
We seem to start in Africa and move to the eastern tropics.
I'm impressed that you managed to resist the temptation to fill every second with a busy mix.
In fact, your arrangement seems quite happy on its own - complete, if you will.
Er... I'm not sure what else I can say, other than to repeat that I like it.
Well done, Alex! Keep it up.

Hi MM, I know, some video game/ film music have the tendency to fill every second with music. I agree with you with the fact that the music has to breath. Thanks for your comments

No worries, Alex; it was a pleasure!
As I placed your piece into my "iTunes New" folder, I noticed that you'd also contributed a flute and acoustic guitar piece called "Aubord".
Very nice, indeed!
Suddenly your considered approach to this piece made perfect sense - there's a whole lot more musical maturity there than the average game music composer brings to the table.

Thanks, here is another one, for the same game. Interesting enough it uses some ancient instrument sounds (with modern textures).

Doh! I've lost 3 attempts midway through the DL process, Alex.
My slow connection is in peak stereotypical form, I'm afraid.
You'd think 2 nights would be sufficient, eh?
Anyway, giving up isn't in my arse... er... arsenal.
Continuing to download....

Nice! I love the way the sounds are reaching the ears. Really cool vibes from this song. The trumpet blasts are very nice indeed! VERY CLEAR MIX and a very welcome ethnic approach to the instrumentation and harmonies.
Just out of curiosity, what sound libraries do you utilize? Whatever it is, it sounds fantastic. (Especially the flute work.)
I agree that there is a nice musical maturity with this track. Interesting harmonies, great percussion and rhythmic sense make this a very formidable piece. The flute and brass is well done as well.
Cool stuff! I hope you check out my latest stuff. Its a totally different style.
Anyways, kudos on this work and the excellent atmosphere it creates.
Cheers!

Thank you RainMan, I will check in your stuff, I am kind of new to this part of Unicornation. As far as libraries, I use Metasynth, the brass is from Garitan Jazz and Big Band, and all the rest is MachFive with good set of libraries among them Percussive Adventures, Twisted textures Ethno World and Ilio- Origins, which I used extensively on the second piece, the Iberia theme.

Due to last week's super-slow connection and my partial absence from the board, I've not had the opportunity until now to comment on the second piece, Alex.
Wow, great job man!
A powerful journey, laced with a haunting recurring melody and evocative ethnic soundscapes, this piece showcases yet again your maturity and the seriousness with which you approach tasks of this nature.
I for one would be delighted if the video game I loved playing accompanied my adventure with an aural landscape of this sort of class.
Very well put together, Alex.
Nicky
PS: FWIW, I look forward to one day being blessed with the tools to dabble in these sorts of "world" expressions.
My outboard MIDI gear simply cannot deliver this sort of thing, with the exception of the Yamaha VL70-m for solo parts.
VIs down the road will hopefully allow this, MachV II being the only one on my shortlist so far, with MSI lurking beneath the surface.

I guess the same way that you break into any other industry... To begin with there are plenty of resources, a quick look into the internet for game developers will keep you busy for a while. Keep in mind that now days when the record industry is falling apart, this industry is growing at a very fast pace.

Thanks for your inspiring words my primate friend, It is only a good incentive to keep going. Do not worry to much about the VIs, if you have talent, good music will result.

I sure hope you're right about that, Alex.
The theory seems sound enough...
