Logic Sounds as DP Software instruments...set up help

I use the latest version of DP, and also have Logic, which I don't much care for but do enjoy the variety of sounds available in it for Demos etc. How would one go about configuring, say, anywhere from 3 or 4 to around 16 MIDI tracks recorded in DP to separately drive individually loaded and sounding Logic instruments? I'm able to get DP to control a selected Logic instrument (if instrument is what they're even called, sheesh) but haven't been able to figure out how to get DP to transmit its signal to a sole Logic inst (and the subsequent sole reception of the sent signal) and just work recording different MIDI tracks in dp and have that automatically control different Logic sounds during recording and playback. It's gotta be easy, right? as you can tell I barely know what I'm talking about, but if anyone can parse my cornfusion and offer a way to control logic as a multi-sound software instrument from multiple MIDI channels or sends from DP, I'd much appreciate it. Muchos gracias.

I don't use Logic, so I'm just guessing, but If Logic uses re-wire, can you set it up as a Rewire slave to DP? I do this with Ableton LIVE slaved to DP all the time.
Logic should show up as an input option within DP if this is the case.

And each of the different software instruments you have loaded into Abelton show up as separately connectible and controllable instruments in DP? can you control the separate (audio) out put routing of the instruments from DP, or do you have to do that inside Ableton? Do you have to indicate which channels or how the Abelton instruments receive the signals from DP?

I have a feeling that Logic won't want to run as a rewire slave. I'd say IAC (Inter-Application MIDI) would be the best bet. You set it up in the Audio-MIDI Setup.

Hey, if anyone gets Logic to work as a slave via IAC, please post the result.
I have Logic, don't care for it - but I do love the VI's. If I could access them via DP that would be awesome.
I have a gut feeling it won't work - IAC has caused problems for some users in the past - I think it's a case of proceed at your own risk.

I use both DP and Logic, and for just that reason. I love Logic's software instruments but love DP's workflow. As far as I know, you can't combine the two. I would love to hear different!

I am SURE one of our regular geniouses around UN will find a way, wether elegant or not, who cares. Just wait and see...

The only way I know of is to put logic on a sep computer and buss the audio via a pair of audio interfaces.....
Logic and DP are ALWAYS rewire Masters.....
However, Logics workflow isn't that difficult. (This is after agonizing my 1st few days over logic.) I now have a way of getting a new Logic user up and running in about 30 minutes or less....
It's all in the terms....
Personally, I can work up a MIDI/VI track 1/10th of the time in Logic that it takes in DP.
BUT!!!! I will ONLY Mix in DP......

I am also a DP and Logic user. The limitations of Logic Express means I end up moving tracks to DP for overdubs and mix. Logic takes some work to figure out. Things are hidden deep in menus, that don't seem "logical". EM had a piece this month to try and explain Logic. The prefaced the article with a talk about how complicated Logic is. I couldn't really make much sense of the suppose help and tips.
It's just easier to record the parts and bounce them over to the DP project and continue on.

After wrestling with this for a while I gave up and I have been running Logic on a second Mac quite successfully. It is now part of my normal setup.
If you want to try it, see Page 542 of the Logic Pro Reference Manual.

You can run Garageband instruments in DP using Soundflower, so you might try the same process with Logic. I set up the Garageband instruments in DP for my brothers system and it works fine, but haven't tried doing so with Logic PRo on my system, so it will be interesting to see what you find.
Here are the instructions for Garageband instruments in DP:

Ah ha! Soundflower is the ticket. Took just a few minutes to get it set up and working. This is a huge leap. I had managed, but it meant patching Logic outputs into DP inputs. With SF, you get the MIDI too. This puts a lot more tools in my easy reach. I still prefer logic for drum loops and banging out stuff quickly, if I'm working alone.

Very cool. Glad that worked. I love the Logic instruments as well, so I might try playing with this when I'm in between projects.

How do you get the MIDI?

I too am interested in this. I'm doing drum trigger MIDI track fixing/editing and the guy I'm doing it for uses logic and his drum set is built in ESX. Sadly, he built his velocity layering crappy so I need to be able to run it to hear my results as I'm working and I HATE working in Logic (I have Express). After one week of trying to tweak in Logic I can begin to describe how much I feel I underappreciated the Sequence Editor in DP. The abitlity to edit audio and MIDI to the sample/note level at the same time. Being able to visually line up notes to beat markers. I'm just hooked on DP's workflow now. If only I oculd get this ESX kit accessible from DP. Curious, when runnign on another comp-what about latency?
