Sounds like wishful thinking. Hopefully less wishful then something like, well maybe the John Kerry 2005 Inagural Ball Dinner Menu. Though it seems like it has been about that long.

Mach Five II = Kontakt

It's not a paid upgrade -- it's a crossgrade. Worked for me.

i dunno... seems obvious to me that motu WAS working on this at one time, and licensed the engine for it at that time. mentions of m5v2 are everywhere, but i'm not getting my hopes up.

sorry to sound negative- i do want it to come out, and i still haven't crossgraded yet. how about 'realistically pessimistic?'

I'm just taking a guess here, but maybe it's not MOTU who's taking so long - it might be Univers Sons (the French software company). Note that Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Trilogy, which are also based on the UVI engine, are still not Intel-ready. (Check the link on the Updates page of their web site - they explain that Stylus is based on an in-house technology, which is why the Intel version is already available.) It's interesting that they say they're pursuing a 'long-term solution', which makes me wonder if they got tired of waiting for Univers Sons and are re-building these instruments in-house. Again, I'm just speculating, so don't go quoting this.

Also, note that Spectrosonics has a page where they post (and answer) questions like the ones we're all asking here about Mach 5, like 'Are the intel Mac Solutions a priority?' and 'Why is it taking so long?'. I figure it'll be a cold day in hell before MOTU communicates so well with their users, but one can hope.

Oops... too late!

Good observations/speculations, BobK.
I've heard similar rumblings before.

Perhaps they're making an American company wait in retaliation for... Freedom Fries.

Hi,

More speculation:
I think that there is/was a third party involved. The company that wrote the translator to import the various sample formats for MachFive v1 seems to be seriously behind schedule (if still working on it at all) on the next version. See the item "CDXTRACT 5 is (still) under development". I'm pretty sure that's from 2005.

http://www.cdxtract.com/news.php

I think (i.e. speculate) that the translator is what's holding up MachFive v2. MOTU may be having to find someone else to write it or be writing it themselves.

There is already a UB UVI-engine plugin - PlugSoundPro. It's similar to MachFive but that it doesn't have sample format translation/import.

Very good analyse then .

I do use PlugsoundPro on a Mac Mini right now and it does work fine in UB ....
I do not need to import or export some old samples .
So PlugSoundPro is a perfect tool for me .
Plus , it allow me to use all the Apple Loops inside DP easily .
I am looking for their new product , Beat.inc
http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/messe07.html
which could had a lot more to my sound banks

Well, it seems that there's now a review of M5v2 in the June edition of Emusician Magazine. (Thanks to williemeyers for this information.)

That means that M5v2 is being released to *someone*...

But for those who've already gone to Kontakt or PSP, is M5v2 still attractive?

For those who are still waiting (not having gotten another soft sampler), this news would likely come as a message of encouragement.

Well, yes, at least as far as PSP goes. You cannot load samples into it!
REX files, Apple Loops, Aiff & WAV is what PSP can Import .

But you are right , you cannot import other sample format .

Well, I was able to import an AIFF by adding it to the user loops folder (there MUST be an easier way!) And I could manipulate it, but I still find MachFive WAY more inuitive and having a visual display of the waveform is useful.

Also, being able to truncate and process is pretty frickin' easy in M5. Not so in PSP.

That said, I do like PSP as a sample playback and their library is extremely well done. But if and when M5-2 comes out, MOTU has my money!

Actually what I mean was, you cannot manipulate samples the way M5 can.
What do you mean ?
