iMac not seeing 896HD

I just moved my setup from one desk in my room to another, but it required taking it a bit apart. Anyways when I reconnected everything my MOTU wouldn't register with my iMac G5. I try to open motu audio setup but it doesn't see the 896 HD plugged in. I'm worried I may have damaged the firewire port as I can see nothing else. I've never had trouble with it other than a dead channel 5 out of the box which I've been putting off returning and getting fixed because I havent had the downtime.

Do you see it in system profiler? If not, try a new firewire cable for a start.
You say you can't see other devices. Try plugging them directly in one at a time - maybe one device has a fault that is causing the bus to crash.

I'm having the same exact issue. I unplugged the firewire cable from the back of my 896hd and replugged it back in--now i can't detect the firewire anywhere--logic, system profiler, etc. I downloaded the latest firewire driver and everything but it hasn't helped. The cables and buses work with other firewire devices (i.e. external hard drives) but not the motu. any other suggestions?

same problem

I'm having the same problem, although i haven't even gotten mine to work yet. I know that on the older models of the iMac, the firewire ports weren't strong enough, but I have a brand spanking new iMac. Frustrating!!!

Lots of reports on Apple discussions regarding Firewire troubles on the new imacs. Make sure yours works with a device such as a drive before spending too much time trouble-shooting your Motu device.

You might try turning on your interface without Firewire plugged in to make sure it boots up on its own. Then plug in the firewire to see if its recognized.

Bob

thanks for the tip rockcity

unfortunately, i've done all that, and when i plug it in, everything is recognized, (all the ins and outs as well as the motu set up pannel), although the cumix doesn't load and audio simply doesn't get to cubase
