DP and Reason, maybe less spiking?

Anybody notice less CPU spiking in DP if CPU usage in Reason is set to "none"?

Why - have you?

I wouldn't have thought to try that as it seems bizarre.

I have just reinstalled Reason 3 with the update 3.03 and it now seems to work better on my system. Have not tried it with DP yet - previously it was unusable. So whats with this thing you are suggesting?

Totally counterintuitive, but potentially genius! On my lowly PB 1 GHz, Reason 3.03 and DP 4.6 are working together smoothly, no spikes so far. Did you try this? If so, please post results.

I will try later as I have one track that as soon as I switched to Reason 3 a few months ago started spiking terribly and forced me back to Reason 2.5. Now I've got 3.03 I'm ready to try this with DP 4.6. I will post the results of this counterintuitive method later !

IMHO CPU Spking shouldn't be happening on a dual 2 gig machine.
It happens to me when I use Pro 53 xPress. My buffer is set at 256. I always use Reason (I love the Reason Drum Kits) and thought maybe changing the CPU Usage setting would have some effect on spiking. I also removed the iSight audio plugin as per suggested on this board. I did these adjustments yesterday and will work today and see if there is a difference in spiking frequency.

Brilliant result - whether its a combination of the new Reason 3.03 and the setting for using zero CPU in Reason Preferences - the track that froze when Reason 3 first came out (and drove me back to reason 2.5) now works perfectly. I guess kpvalentine proves that it pays to experiment. Thanks very much for this !

This was no help to me at all. When browsing/loading large combinator patches, DP freaks out with HUGE spikes, core MIDI crashes and I need to reboot. This is a real bummer. I guess I expected this to be fixed in the 3.03 update. Time to email the Swedish folks (with a cc to MOTU).

Well I'm afraid I wasn't so ambitious - I know that large combinator patches are not going to run on my machine - but the more basic sound sources such as NNXT's and NN19s now do run better without my machine juddering and spiking. I think this proves that 3.03 is better, and this CPU thing may well have improved performance too.

Yesterday I noticed less CPU load in DP with CPU allocation set to none in Reason. Still getting some spiking though.

Thank You ,
Would never have thought to do this....
Now Reason is working like a champ. It's a great program
that I thought was lost. It's back because of your suggestion.

I'm running it set to 70% and it made a huge difference. Going to try the 'none' setting as well and see if that helps more.

Thanks for the tip -
