The skinny on Mach 5

Hi Guys,

a recent DP / Mac convert whose loathed Gigastudio from the day I got it.

At this pointg the Mac can do all I need but I still would like a few libs I used with GS.
my choices are buy a soundcard for my PC and use it as a Giga box.
or,.... buy Mach 5, and just run it all off the Mac.

Can I get some ideas from users how M5 performs, stability, ease, sound etc,
also, I'd like to be able to use a few GS libs,.. will they load and still give me the keyswitching functions etc... i.e Scarbee GS Finger bass, in M5?

thanks

Peter

Pros-- MachFive is a great plugin with lots of amazing features-- clever GUI, fun to use, works great under MAS, etc., etc....

Cons-- It's not Intel compatible yet, version 2 was promised 28 months ago and is to date a no-show, UVI extract works for many things but a good guess from reading through the MachFive forum indicates a possibility of a 10%(?) chance of something not quite porting over just so.

Check out the MachFive forum-- there are a few lengthy threads where MachFive and Kontakt 2 are compared.

The current MachFive doesn't handle keyswitching. The future version's been in development limbo for an uncomfortably long time (you'd think it were a screenplay). I'd suggest sticking with GS or switching to Kontakt 2.

Hmm... when I said this it meant nothing.
Now, however...

Yay! Yippee! Woo-hoo! Ripper! Bonza, mate!
Alright! Cool! Wicked! Right on! Awesome! Yee-haa!

Monkey, now quite beside himself, resumes chanting with a fervour bordering on the insane...

Go Machy, K2 killer, go Machy, go Machy!
Go Machy, ain't no filler, go Machy, go Machy!
Go Machy, MOTU thriller, go Machy, go Machy!
Go Machy, sampling Gorilla, go Machy, go Machy!

Go Shooshie! Not your average bootie!
Go Shooshie! Go Shooshie!
Go Shooshie! Not to be taken loosely!
Go Shooshie! Go Shooshie!

We're not to take this loosely, are we? No?

Monkey, now even more beside himself, resumes chanting with the fervour of a mad man, er, monkey...

We leave the scene as the silly ape, stuck in a loop of ever-increasing intensity, hurtles towards certain implosion.
Quick, 'Cornies; we've got some ground to cover.
After all, have you seen what that ape used to eat?

They're just freebies off the 'net.
Didn't know you could make 'em.
I wouldn't know a graphic app if it landed in my face.

I think James is right about the Boogie->Marshall thing where his kinda music's concerned.
Dang, have you heard his tone and how it cuts through in his songs?
Impressive, bg335.

James - I just played an 18 watt 74 Marshall re-issue last week and I must say it has some of the sweetest tone I've played. I have a Boogie IIc and an old orange Roland Cube 100. Both are fine amps and have been my rigs for many, many years. But the Marshall may make me pry my fingers open and spend a few (lots) of bucks.
