Cue Wiper Blues (a newbie's lament...)

As I'm making the transition from Sonar to DP, I'm having some real difficulties with how the Cue Wiper behaves (or doesn't). For example, in the Sequence View mini-menu, if I select Go To and type in a location, the display moves to show the location, but the wiper doesn't move - if I hit Play, it starts from the original wiper location.
There is a similar issue in the Event View, where clicking on a not event plays the note, but doesn't move the cue location.
Are there ways (other than typing the location into the Transport Counter, or scrolling and double-clicking) to get the cue wiper to go to a specific location?
Thanks in advance for any assistance. It's not a deal-breaker for using DP, but it is a major inconvenience.

type in the numbers-- and hit enter. This will cause the wiper to snap to location. Hit F1 and the counter will set the location as the new start time.

Cue locations are independent-- helps you to not lose your place if you work on some other aspect of your project.
Markers also come in handy for this purpose. You can set markers throughout your sequence at strategic locations and jump from one to the next. The marker window causes the wiper to jump with a simple click on a marker location.
Also, placing the cursor "just so" above the topmost track in the MIDI Editor and the Tracks Overview (and Sequence Editor) causes it to change appearance. Once it does, click the mouse and the wiper will jump to that location without having to type anything.

set time and hit F1
Also, if you are stopped in the middle of a measure, hit the period on the number pad. That will set the wiper at the beginning of the bar.

It's all sort of a matter of learning those little quirks and shortcuts that you need the most. It takes time-- but once you single out your most needed moves, you get into a rhythm.
Take a few moments and look through all of your key commands. Try them out to see which ones will help you the most. Then, create a few of them of your own where no command assignment exists. It's easy to do and it can make the world of difference.
The number pad will quickly become your friend, once you've learned all that it's set up to do.

Hey Mark-
I'm new to DP as well (a week) from Nuendo/Cubase.
what you might try is setting marker points to the main sections of the tune that you most likley will return to, I keep the marker view off on the right side bar, clicking in this, makes the wiper snap immediately....
it might help?
I agree that the wiper is very particular of exactly where you click on the time line.
good luck

I wish that MOTU would allow you to double-click anywhere in the sequence or MIDI graphic editor windows to bring the wiper to that position... that is how it works in ProTools and in StudioVisionPro was something similar.
Even after a lot of experience using DP, it is definitely a little disruptive to have to REACH up and AIM for the timeline ruler in order to double click the wiper to that position... if you are fine-tuning MIDI notes it would be really nice be able to just double click right in front of the note you want to hear when you press play.
That's on my wish list, anyway.

Thanks all! Frodo, it doesn't work quite as you describe on my system, but some new shortcuts should get it to (mostly) do what I want.
Ah, the joys of discovery...

Great, Mark.
Yeah-- it's not perfect, but my most often used move is to get the wiper to anywhere within the bar I want and then hit the 'period' on the number pad. That sets it to the beginning of the bar.
Also, you can nail down locations within a bar (in the TO) by zooming out-- +/- in the lower right corner. Great for working with subdivisions.

That last tip (. on the number pad) is a god send.
Anyone have tips on quickly selecting an entire song for bouncing?
I'm used to using markers in PT to do so (.1. jumps to my 'Start' marker, press Shift, .3. jumps to my 'End' marker, selecting everything in between).

Command-A. There are other, more selective ways, but this is the quickest.

Where can I find a list of all the various things you can do with the number pad? I've figured out some on my own by experimentation, but I can't find anything in the manual index for Number Pad or Transport.
Thanks in advance for any pointers ~

Page 51 of the DP5 manual shows the standard Numeric Keypad controls.
The step record controls for the Numeric Keypad are on page 248 of the DP 5 manual.

Looking in the index under "Keypad" would be a good place to start...

my most used play command is control space.
click anywhere - on a track - on a break point - cntrl space will play from there...

Hey Martian,
That sounds great... but it doesn't seem to work with my setup.
Control-Space just starts the sequence playing from the start time stored in memory.
Perhaps you have altered your Commands? Can you please tell me the *name* of the command that you have set to respond to control-space?
Thanks! I'd love to find out that this works.
