Mach 5, Protools 7.1, OSX Tiger, Problems, Sadness, Despair

Hello everyone. This is my first post to the board. I'm really glad I found you guys. I hope you can help.

I know that this issue has been discussed here, but none of the suggested fixes have worked so I want to put it back out there. I've been using Mach 5 v1.2 for a couple years with Protools v6.7 on a Dual G5 1.8 with great success.

Last weeked I upgraded my system to OSX Tiger v10.4.6 and Protools v7.1 (and added a second internal SATA drive for my sample library). I started with a fresh install of OSX Tiger (Reformat then install, NOT the update option). Everything was great. I installed Protools v7.1. Everything was great. I installed Mach 5 v1.2. It shows up as a plug-in, I can access it, all of my sessions/samples work just fine EXCEPT for this:

The Mach 5 interface has no text (soundbank, values of the parameters etc.. ). I can click on the usual hotspots on the interface and can get to all of the popup menus and samples just fine but nothing displays in the interface. I'm looking at a bunch of blank knobs and sliders on screen.

I installed the Mach 5 v1.2.3 update but that didn't change anything - for better or worse. I looked in the /Library/Audio/Plug-ins folder and I see folders for MAS, HAL, VST, and Components, but nothing for RTAS. Is there supposed to be a RTAS folder? I reinstalled the v.1.2.3 update making sure to choose RTAS/TDM in the custom install but nothing changed.

Please help. I can't get any real work done without fixing this problem. Fortunately, my sessions still play and bounce but Mach 5 without text is just not going to cut it.

Thanks in advance.

Try this--

see if you can locate all M5 plugin files-- whether RTAS, MAS, VST, etc...

Look in these locations:

Library> Audio > Plugins

and

Library > Application Support > Digidesign

You can also try Spotlight to nail down any M5 files.

Drag all of these files into the trash.

Reinstall M5 1.2.3.

Funny thing-- the M5 updater doesn't always update older files as it should. Quite a few users had to do a semi manual uninstall and reinstall.

I tried what you said. Removing the two files from Library>Application Support>Plugins makes the plug-in unusable to Protools because it doesn't know it's there. The v1.2.3 installer doesn't replace those files so I uninstalled Mach 5 completely and reinstalled v1.2 from my DVD then ran the v1.2.3 installer. No change. I am still having the same issue of no text.

I had this happen in PT 7.1 once. I don't know what fixed it but I am now running OSX 10.4.8 with PT 7.2 on a PPC dual G5 and using Mach 5 pretty much every day. Wish I could offer more than just telling you it should work :(

Soundeziner,

Thanks for your input. You must be running ProTools HD if you're using v7.2. There was no v7.2 for LE, only HD.

This is so frustrating. I suppose I could start over by reinstalling OSX v10.4.6 then upgrading to v10.4.8. Then install ProTools v7.1. Then install Mach 5 v1.2, then v1.2.3 update. Ugh!

This Sucks!!

unforunately I see I'm not the only one on this boat.

PT HD 7.3.1
Dual 2.5 Gig G5
5 MB RAM

I can't make the jump from 1.2 to 1.2.3 either. I tried the manual uninstall reinstall deal. Doesn't work. It doesn't actually install the program, just the "Unix OSX" program and a "machfiveutiis.bundle" plugin. It seems to me the installer is actually missing stuff in the package.

I can use version 1.2 as an RTAS but that's kind crappy when I should be able to use the TDM version.

They have to fix this problem ASAP!!

There never was a TDM version...
MOTU's website wrote: Because MachFive supports every major audio production platform (MAS, VST, Audio Units, HTDM, RTAS and DXi) on both Macintosh and Windows

You can't use HTDM b/c DIGI DROPPED HTDM in PT7. There's nothing MOTU can fix about Digi dropping their own plug-in format.

I'm fresh out of ideas. I updated OSX to v10.4.8 and that didn't help. The complete install sequence was:
OSX v10.4.6 > ProTools v7.1 > Mach 5 v1.2 > Mach 5 v1.2.3 upgrade > OSX v10.4.8 upgrade

I then tried another sequence (reformatting my hard drive to begin with):
OSX v10.4.6 > OSX v10.4.8 upgrade > ProTools v7.1 > Mach 5 v1.2 > Mach 5 v1.2.3 upgrade. Still no luck. I even checked Mach 5 before the v1.2.3 upgrade and it (v1.2) had the same problem.

MOTU is useless as far as helping. I can't believe that with all of the people reporting this issue they can't take a dual G5 (any speed really) and install the above mentioned software to duplicate the problem even once.

Same thing is now happening to me!!!!

This is retarded! I had a major computer crash. After reinstalling everything I'm getting the exact same thing.

Before my crash Mach 5 worked great with protools and logic! Is there anyone out with the older updates previous to 1.2? I thought their were a few inbetween that don't seem to be on the sight anymore.

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!

Here's the fix!!!!!!

Uninstall all machfive stuff. except for your machfive soundfolder and sounds.

Reinstall only the MachFive 1.2.3 update and UVIX 1.2 update.

For some reason the installer put's the MachFive 1.2.3 plugin in the
Digidesign/plug-ins (alias) folder. Take the MachFive 1.2.3 plugin
out of their and drag it in to (Library/application support/digidesign/Plug-ins
) folder and open up Pro Tools!!!!!!!!

ENJOY!

Trailmix -

YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!

Let me say it a few more times so the whole world knows....

YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE A GOD!!!!!!!!!

I tried everything else suggested on this site 10 times but your solution worked the first time. I think, the key was moving the "MachFive Protools OSX" file to the path you suggested even though there were two other Mach 5 plugin files in there already (which I removed first).

You have restored my faith in MOTU, Mach5, and all things that are good in the universe.

Now I'm willing to give v2 a shot (if it ever is released).

Thanks....

Glad it helped!!!!!

Up until my whole system crashed MachFive has always been super stable, easy to use, and a goto for me when working in PT.
I own Kontakt 2, Reason 3, and EXS w/Logic which are all pretty cool. But I think seeing the Electronic Musician article for V2 and just plain being able to have full access to all my tools when it comes to getting some work done I spent about 5 hours grinding over this problem.

Now let's hope MOTU hooks us all up with a free upgrade for waiting so long for V2!!!!!
