Should this File be in my Documents Folder?

Post by anambrose »

I just found:
MOTUFirewireAudio.kext sitting in my documents folder.
My 896HD is plugged in but turned off.
Spotlight Shows:
Kind: Kernel Extension 284KB on disk(260,120bytes)
Created Thursday 4/28/05
Last opened on and modified on 4/11/06
In: /Users/me/Documents
Opens with: None
Ownership & Permissions:
I can: Read Only
Owner: system/It's showing locked even though I'm logged as an admin.
Access: Read&Write
Group: wheel
Access: Read Only
Others: Read Only

Where does this file really belong and how do I get it there?
Thanks

Could a newer driver installation have moved it there, being an older/replaced version?
Did you run it from/install it around about 4/28/05, then install a later driver around 4/11/06?

Is the folder it ended up in a "default" folder you've set for document-saving?
If so, the installer may have automatically moved it there.
This wouldn't be uncommon, although I'm not sure the MOTU apps do this.

Mac 2012 12C Cheese Grater, OSX 10.13.6
MOTU DP8.07, MachFive 3.2.1, MIDI Express XT, 24I/O
Novation, Yamaha & Roland Synths, Guitar & Bass, Kemper Rack

I just emailed back support with what I found thanks to their help. I'd just run Diskwarrior doing normal maintenance. It had flagged maybe three files that had wrong/corrupt extensions and that's when I found the Motu file in my Documents folder. When I downloaded the FW driver update it replaced the original driver with version 1.4.1. The older kext file did'nt entirely disappear but instead lived on as a 284kb fragment and when I ran DW it found it and moved it out. Funny thing is I did that update last
year and have run DiskWarrior a few times since then but this is the first time the older FW file showed up. So you have it about right and thanks for the help.

Yay! Success anambrose! :D

Hey, fella; WELCOME to UnicorNation!

Hope it's been useful so far.

PS: Curious that that fragment remained.
Perhaps DW or the installer was interrupted mid-task. :?
