I've been using it since it was first released, and use it on every production I mix.
I only use an average of 3 LM plugins, compression mostly, and have never maxed it out, but between LM and my 2 UAD-1 cards my dual 1.8 G5 will be in service at least until next September
I also have the Waves SSL bundle and compared those emulations to the LM. The LM SSL EQ emulation sounded better to me, but not by much.
The Waves Buss Comp. emulation was a bit more punchy with identical settings, but not by much. Dollar for dollar the LM is the better deal IMHO.

DP & Liquid Mix

Post by lunaticDP »

We use Liquid Mix and dp5.11 on MacPro. Although I am satisfied with the sound I have latency troubles now and then. I can not say what they depend on, but especially on mixes of live-orchestra recordings I am very carefully using it because of unwanted flanging effects.
We also use LM in some Projects of Final Cut Pro too.
Comparing price/value I must say it is absoluteley worth the money.

I have been using it since September on my G5 with great results. I did need to add a FW card to get enough bandwidth to use my Traveler and FW drives at the same time.

Love the sounds, there are so many options. I used about 24 instances on a surround mix that I did, no problems. Highlights so far: SSL, Distressor, Fairchild, dbx, LA-2A ( emulations of course!!)

Have just tested it with my new MacBook Pro, and all is well, although have yet to test it with the Traveler and a drive to check whether the system can cope.

Highly recommended, especially at the price.

kind regards

Stephen

BTW never had any latency problems, I found you must always check the 'Always run in real time' option for the plugin, as the default is off.

Thanks for the input. I wanted to see if anyone was successful with multiple FW devices while LM was running... I love the LM also but the FW bandwidth overload is a drag...

I cannot use more then one device with it and LM is all by itself on a external PCIe FW card. Also it will not run if you have 2 cards in. Focusrite said there will be a new software release this week that should solve that problem. Other then the FW issue LM is the best plug I have heard. I A/B with my waves platinum and it is so much better. The overtones are there and the sound is amazing...

Someone posted elsewhere that OS 10.4.9 is about to be released and it also addresses some FW bugs, too.

So odd about the the device being a bus hog-- Duende is the same way-- won't run if any other FW devices are connected. Hmm.

most certainly is.... it's just a shame to have to choose one FW device over the other. The LM is a great unit.

Not so odd in this day and age, really...

Liquid mix at a distance???

Post by labman »

Is anyone using a Liquid Mix with their production macs machine room a fair amount of feet away? (30ft in our case) Perhaps with a FW repeater?

MacPro to LiquidMix distance

Post by lunaticDP »

@labman
we use the liquidmix in a distance of about 12 meters to the macpro; we use a fw repeater and everything is okay so far...

That silly ape was only half-correct, so for the sake of accuracy:
The Speculative hobbit wrote:... 10.4.9 appears to be on the way, but it's not 100% clear what this update will do.
Then wolfetho wrote:... I've heard that a new audio firewire driver is also included in the 10.4.9 update.
There. Would you believe I realised this whilst chopping celery today.
Go figure; the monkey has an acute case of UnicorNitis, no doubt.
