chaining two 896s? help

Post by bleached04 »

I have two 896 interfaces..one HD version and one regular...im trying to daisy chain them via firewire for more inputs...the 896 HD is connected to my computer and the regular 896 runs to the HD...both interfaces show up in the Motu Audio Setup window but in DP i only see inputs for the HD interface...how can i get the regular 896 inputs to show up? thanks for the help

In DP, Hardware Setup, shift-click to select both 896s. Then DP will know you're using both.

Last year I had 1 896 and 2 896 HD's all daisy-chained together via firewire. It took a bit to figure out exactly how to set things up. I found the order things were turned on could be important. My order was:

External USB Drive
Mac (just to boot up)
MIDI Timepiece AV and Motus

then start Clockworks for the timecode
finally opening a new project in DP

Another little thing that seemed to matter: I had the firewire from the left FW port in the 896 running to the 896HD left port, and the right port on the 896HD to the next 896HD (for you, would be to the computer).

Not sure what you are using this rig for, but I have some fairly detailed instructions from last year for our 24-channel recording. feel free to PM me and I can email them to you...
