DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
I'm working on a session for two days now. On the first I recorded drums, and today I recorded guitar. Or, I what I meant to say: I ried to record guitar.
Everytime I stop recording DP4.51 shows me a beach ball for 30 seconds. The same happens when I undo a recording.
I'm pretty new to DP so maybe I did something wrong. Or does this sound like a familiar quirk to you?
I should mention that i record on a partition that is on the same disk as the OS. Both partitions have at least 30 gb of free space. the strange thing is that I did not have this problem yesterday, or with another (new) project file. Maybe I accidentily changed a setting in the project?

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
You might try turning off automatic beat detection (if it is on) and see if that makes any difference. At least then you might know one thing contributing to the slow down, and if you don't need it for that track you can leave it off until you do.

You might also trying flushing the undo's on that particular project if you can.. a big undo history can cause havoc sometimes. Also maybe a permissions repair is in order with disk utility. Those 2 things will usually solve most intermittent issues like that I've had.

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
Nope, that didn't help. When I open the project it also takes about 15 seconds to become responsive. During those 15 seconds the regions are greyed out.
When I stop recording, the playback-gauge in Audio Performance was 50% full. It drops down to zero again after the freezing.

Flushing undo and repairing permissions didn't help .

Do you record on the same hard disk the OS is on?Originally posted by jackorhythm:

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
I tried recording with the 828 mkII turned off, using the G5's inputs. Still the same problem. So that rules out the interface I guess...

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
i do record on the same drive but that's never been an issue either way. i had the same thought about the interface. last night i upped the os to 10.3.7 and re-re-dumped and reinstalled everything dp. now the crashing stopped but i'm still having the same problems as you so i guess i'll go back to 4.12 and wait for a fix. too bad-i've used their stuff for years and never had problems this serious. i guess they rushed this version to market.
Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
I copied the project to my external Lacie Firewire drive to see if it would do the same from that drive. The answer is: yes... It's slow too... That's another thing to rule out. *sigh*

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
i had similar problems with MIDI! My sound came back to me 60 seconds later! I gave up and went back to DP 4.5 and all is well. From what I can tell 4.5.1 is a dog!

Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
Try turning off the preload audio function in the studio configuration window (where you assign how many mono/stereo voices and auxes you want).
Re: DP4.51 temporarily unresponsive after stopping recording
I opened the project on my iBook G4. The problem is still there. So, it's not related to the computer.
Amplidood: I'll try that preload thing later this day.

Unchecking " Prefill filebuffers for quickstart" didn't help...
