Vinyl: the other side of the coin

Post by vier-personen »

I am looking for a free or cheap plug-in that would work as izotope‘s Vinyl, but in reverse - it should reduce pop and crackle of LPs recorded to HD.
a friend of mine who is digitalizing his LP collection asked me about the best way to do this... I though, the nation knows more than I know...
also, any general tips would be helpful! thanks!

Soundsoap or Soundsoap Pro

Here is an extended article on restoration software called "Noise Busters". Lots of cross references and recommendations:

Waves Restoration Bundle-- great software, but it is currently for TDM only, and from what I understand there is no support currently for DP 5.x.

Waves Restoration Bundle-- great software, but it is currently for TDM only, and from what I understand there is no support currently for DP 5.x.
When did the Restoration Bundle go TDM-only? I've used it with DP MAS, but not recently. Did they drop MAS & AU with version 5? Incidentally, this is the best noise reduction software I've used. It's incredible. Soundsoap (not the pro version) is barely adequate for the simplest noise removal. I'd hope that Soundsoap Pro is better. But I haven't bought it, because I plan to get the Restoration Bundle when I really have a need for it. It removes noises that you would think are impossible. I hope they do not drop support for MAS and AU.

For restoration:

Might I suggest Tracer's Diamond Cut Six? It is affordable, simple to use (download it for free trial from their website). It is the alternative program that police departments, FBI, and other gov. agencies use in the place of Cedar Audio to get GREAT forensic results and yet save dollars of investment.

check it out...

Additionally, if you have an Intel based processor... partition off a section for Windows and run Adobe Audtion 2.0
Check out the restoration advantages of using the Spectral View.... you can actually see what is happening.... and much faster with the lasso tool. Again, Adobe has a free download of the complete program for trial.

just some additional ideas

Another vote here for Waves Restoration bundle. I haven't heard anything that even comes close.
