snap crackle and pop

hey guys i was wondering if someone could help me out with this:

So I'm using MSI and DP 5.1 to score and record a film. Problem is that MSI crackles and pops as I play it. I thought that my RAM just couldnt handle it cause I was at the minimum for both programs so then I bought a 1 G stick of RAM and now im at 1.5 which should be more than safe. HOwever I still get that little crackling. I was wondering if someone had experience with this prior.

I recently just got DP 5.1 and I know it crackles in real time but still am figuring out how to work DP. Before DP however the crackling carried over on to iTunes when i shared a file from garageband. Does DP render it so that its all clean? And how can I get my MSI to run without crackling every couple of notes?

Thanks in advance

Do the clicks follow the CPU meter hitting red? if yes it might be something with your buffer. If not, it could be your work priority or buffer multiplier. It is likely to be hardware interface related

Need more infos on your system though...

Good Luck

I've had this problem from time to time with my Apogee Rosetta 800 when I use it's firewire interface. When I interface it through ADAT optical there is no problem. I'm thinking it may be a firewire issue, but I can't say for sure.

This one worked for me:

Simply up the polyphony setting for each part to slightly more than you need.

My pops were gone. Worth a try. :P

Just bought symphonic instrument.

Clicks and pops all over the place.

Using it in Cubase SX3. The Performance meter is low as low can be.

Polyphony is at 10 or 12 and the parts have got only 1 to 3 notes at a time.

EDIT: Tends to happen at the beginning/ends of notes.

Cheers

Any help on this would be great as I have a meeting with my publishing company in the next few days and I am showing them a few tracks I have written using the symphonic instrument.

The clicks and pops are still there on audio mixdown.

I've tried turning off the convolution reverb as well which doesnt have any affect.

The only thing left that I'm going to try is running the samples off a seperate hard drive as they are on the same hard drive as Cubase SX3 at the moment.

I tried playing with the sample preload and the ring buffer and neither have any effect on the pops.

Cheers

Ok I've got a work around going.

I can transfer the cubase file to my G4 laptop and it plays fine without any clicks and pops.

Its not quite so urgent now but its still annoying to use.

I was worried it was something to do with me using 10.3.9 but its obviously not. And I was running the samples off the laptop hard drive so its not that.

Its perhaps because the G5 is dual processor.

I guess the next step might be to remove all my plugs on the G5 and try that.

I'm using symphonic instrument version 1.1.3 btw.

I'm sure most of you have tried this already but it worked for me.
Go into set up for DP.
Select configure hardware and set the buffer size to at least 256 or higher.
Poof! It sounds fine now. No more unwanted noise.

But as I was auditioning the sound by looping a MIDI performance, DP just up and quit on me with no message saying, Digital Performer has unexpectedly quit.
Poof! It just disappeared.
Very disconcerting.

That is due to a performance issue.

Raising ur buffers puts less pressure on ur processor but increases latency.

My issue isn't performance related though I appreciate the help. Thanks ;)

Incidently I just tried MSI on an identical G5 I have in the house for non music work and I have exactly the same problem. I ran it using built in audio because it doesnt have the MOTU drivers and is not connected up so thats not the problem either.

I've had this exact same problem using MSI through my Firepod. Seems like I must have a firewire problem as every other possible fix has yet to change anything. Anyone care to comment on this? Based on the responses so far, it sounds like there could be a number of reasons why people are experiencing clicks and pops, but I am pretty sure mine is an issue with the firepod.

I get rid of the problem by working at 1024 buffer within cubase with my G5.

Its crazy though because I dont get any crackles at much lower buffer sizes useing G4 laptop.

I had this same issue, but it only happened on a pipe organ sample. I was playing very simple parts on the string samples, but I did a full 4 parts on the organ and got all kinds of nastyness.

Check out the DP thread... We've been complaining about crackles and pops in DP5 for a couple days.

I'm not using DP. I'm using Cubase 4 and am on a PC. I tried installing a new firewire card to no avail. Pops and clicks all over the place. Buffer settings have no effect. Going on 8 months now with no solution to this problem and the software is unusable. Getting rather frustrated and discouraged. This is the ONLY plug-in that I experience this problem with.

Of course, no software manufacturer will ever take back opened software, so I'm stuck with it. Can't afford to just go out and buy something else and hope it works. Almost makes me want to go back to downloading cracked software. Very discouraging.

Pops and clicks with Pro Tools too

whenever I run MIDI through it I get random clicks... I tried different sounds and the same thing..... I try every other soft synth I have and I have no issues...... all my sounds for all my soft synths are on my other internal drive which is designated just for sounds... I tried changing the buffer size and the polyphony settings and no difference.....

it is a real bummer because the sounds are great but the pops are random and it would take forever to fix them.... please anyone... help... thanks

I am running:

Mac OS 10.4.6, dual 2.7 processor, 2.5 gigs of RAM (pre Intel Mac)
ProTools HD4 7.3.1 (the most updated version)
Symphonic v 1.1.3
