Bad Studio Project C1

Post by Dwetmaster »

Hi
I have a Studio Project C1 Microphone that is making a low level scratching noise. After troubleshooting a bit I think that it is coming from the mic's diaphragm. I was told that moisture can do that to mic's diaphragm. Any ideas on how to fix it?

That's sad! I don't have an answer for you, but I'm wondering - do you usually use a pop shield? Do you usually keep the mic in its case? I've been doing both in order to forestall the same issue. I just don't know if I'm paranoid by doing this. I've only used my C1 about ten times so far, though.

The ambient conditions where a mic is kept and used have a real impact. If a room is cold and the mic has been on for only a short time, close-up vocals can cause condensation to form on the diaphragm, which can cause noise, loss of frequencies etc.

Always a good idea to let a mic warm up before use, and try to avoid storing at low temperatures. And yes, a pop shield is helpful if you are using the mic for close vocals. Also, some singers expel more moisture than others!!!

Hope you get the problem sorted

kind regards
