configure hardware settings every time I change locations?

Post by aquaman »

I use a motu 828 with my macbook pro at home but when I take my macbook out and want to work form headphones I have to change all my outputs to built in output. its a real pain. is there anyway to automatically switch all the outputs at once?
thanks

maybe it is the post thanksgiving glow, but I would be happy just to have a Macbook Pro!

Dunno, one option might be to set up two user accounts!

Home -- 828

Away -- internal audio.

I am about 98.9% sure that would work. I have two accounts on my home machine, each set up to use a different audio interface. I never run DP on one of the accts though so I can't guarentee that you will have the desired results there. But I pretty sure it would work.

Maybe somebody will come up w a better solution.

in the meantime, I am thankful you have a Macbook Pro!

I always run all my audio tracks to an Aux bus called 'MIX'. If i need to route the audio to a different output I just have to change the output of the one Aux track rather than every single audio track.

Of course, changing the output of every audio track is pretty easy by selecting all of them and hitting opt-A to bring up the audio assignments box.

Of course there is also the Bundles window, you can change the desitination for any named output or input. In fact, you can save and recall bundle setups which makes it really easy.

Or you could select all tracks you want to change outputs on and hit alt+a and select witch output to route those tracks to...

I created a bundle called "Master Output" and would simply assign it to whatever output I was using on a given machine.

I definitely second the use of audio bundle. You just change your main out to what ever you want. You don't have assign everything to a special bus.
