Ultralite. Recording Guitar. 48V and Pad switch.

Post by jameshabits »

Hi everyone, I'm using a Motu Ultralite audio interface and I have some questions about the Mic 48V and PAD switch. I have an electric guitar and connected it straight to my audio interface's MIC/INSTR. IN 2 port and it plays fine and all but when I switch the PAD switch to the middle the sound becomes even quieter... When I switch the pad switch all the way to the top it almost completly quiet... My question is this normal?

That's what the pad is supposed to do. when your mic / line level is too hot and you want more gain control, you engage the pad.

there's no reason to use the 48V phantom power unless you're using a condensor mic or a DI that needs it.
