Please Please Help Mackie Control Fader Problems

Just got digital performer yesterday. I've got a Mackie Universal Contol connected. Seems like all contorls work except for faders. They want to stick. When I move them, the go back to the location they were in when the song file was opened. I can get movement on the screen only when I force the fader to stay, then when I let go, it returns back to where it was.

Any ideas?

Perhaps your MCU is sending to DP but not receiving properly. check your connections and your MIDI setup. make sure nothing is filtered out

I've tried that. Didn't work. It works great on the same system with Logic. All if have to do is change the setup to logic and it works great. Everything but the faders respond properly as far as I can tell.

What firmware version is the MCU running? I had this problem last year until I updated to the latest version from Mackie's website - I think it is 2.1.2.

I've got the most recent update to firmware. I really am having a hard time getting this to work. In Logic, it was so easy.

Actually I have 2.1.0 and not 2.1.1. I tried to update, but I can't get that to work either. I don't anything about MIDI. Any ideas on this.

Some Mackie controls were made for Logic- Logic Control. There have been updates to increase universality, such as the 2.x ones. Let's proceed as if you have an actual Mackie:

In DP- Mixer, make sure tracks are in Automation record AND playback- OR Mix Mode completely off. Using Playback only will make the faders resist and/or snap to the most recently recorded snapshot data or setting.

Because you can move the faders but they snap back, it sounds like your sequence has data- meaning that you are fighting the automation .Moving the faders, either with mix mode OFF or with automation record/playback OFF, should let you playback as you will.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. My MCU is only about 3 months old, if that helps in the diognosis.

If you are on 2.1.0, I would bet money this is your problem. This is exactly what mine was doing before I updated. The latest version is 2.1.2, here: http://www.mackie.com/products/mcu/mcu_upgrade.html

To do the update, you have to create a DP project and load the MIDI file from Mackie's website into it - just create a MIDI track and drag the MIDI file from their site to that track in Tracks Overview of Sequence Editor.

Here are the instructions from the Mackie update file:

1. Make sure your controller is plugged into the computer via MIDI and communicating with your preferred audio software application.

2. Disable the Mackie Control/Logic Control as a MIDI controller device in the control surface setup section of your audio software application.

3. Disable MTC, MMC, MIDI Clock, MIDI Metronome, or any other MIDI signals being sent by your DAW.

4. Import the MIDI file you just downloaded from the Mackie web site into your audio software application, and make sure the Mackie Control/Logic Control is the target MIDI device on channel one.

5. Turn off the power of the Mackie Control/Logic Control.

6. Hold down the REC RDY buttons on channels 1 and 2 and the SELECT button on channel 1 as you turn the power on. This will put the Mackie Control/Logic Control into the Boot Loader Mode.

7. Once in the Boot Loader Mode, simply play back the MIDI file in its entirety from your audio software application. While the MIDI file is playing, you should see a series of dots parade across the display. If you do not see the dancing dots, restart at step 1.

8. Once the MIDI file has played through to the end (you'll know when), hit STOP in your audio software application. The controller will restart automatically.

9. Select the desired mode of operation (Mackie Control or Logic Control).

10. Apply the appropriate overlay to the master section ••“ you••™re done.

If you want to change the operating modeat any time, here's what you need to do:

1. Turn off the power of the Mackie Control/Logic Control.

2. Hold down the SELECT buttons on channels 1 and 2 as you turn the power on. This will enter the Mackie Control/Logic Control Mode Selection Dialog on the display.

3. Select the desired mode of operation - Mackie Control or Logic Control (or HUI, if the Mackie Control Universal Upgrade was purchased and installed).

4. Apply the appropriate overlay to the master section ••“ you••™re done.

Once an operating mode has been selected, the controller will continue to boot up into that mode unless you choose to change the mode of operation as described above.

How do you do this. I don't anything about MIDI. I see some of these options, but I don't know how to disable all of them.

Disable MTC, MMC, MIDI Clock, MIDI Metronome, or any other MIDI signals being sent by your DAW.

Finally got the update to work using Logic Pro, now the MCU works fine in DP. Thanks for everyone's help.
