I have been searching for this too, Frodo. I found several competitors to Magma, but they all were as "proud" of their solutions as Magma, if you get my drift ($$$$$$$$$). The cheapest I saw was the new 4 slot Magma PCIe to PCI at $1400. That seems like a lot of dough for a chassis that doesn't really have any computing power of its own.

Wholly agreed, RA. At those prices it should pay taxes, mop floors, take out the garbage, and give Mr. Happy a spit shine twice a week!

Now THAT would be worth $1400!

Yep - it's a bit of a shitter paying big bucks for an empty box(waiting to be filled with uad/powercores) but I think it's pretty specialist/small volume to warrant such hefty prices. I think magma are the only ones offering board sets that you put in your own box. A budget pc case with psu will only cost £30ish - a 13 slot with import to UK about £600. 2nd hand magmas are a rare beast and not much less than boardset.
i'm just waiting for UA webzine november which apparently will give a run down of what works with what.

I'm actually looking to sell my 7-slot Magma chassis (PCI, not PCI-e, mind you). I've used it with great success for a couple of years with my 2x2.0 G5. Kept 2 UAD-1s and a Powercore Element in it. Works with the PCI-x G5s. Now I'm going to transition to an intel mac and won't need it any more.

I'll happily sell it for $350 + shipping costs; if anyone's interested PM me.

I apologize if this is inappropriate chatter for this thread, but it seemed to fit.
