Sorry if these ideas are too basic, but not knowing what you've tried, these might help...
Make sure your MIDI outputs are set correctly (the correct synth, VI, whatever and correct MIDI channel).
If you're using VI's, is your audio output routed to your speakers/headphones?
Are your MIDI cables routed correctly (if you're using hardware units)? Volumes up?
Is your Audio MIDI Setup up-to-date and tested? (Go to "Test Setup" under "MIDI Devices".)
These are the basic things I sometimes overlook when I'm in a hurry or just in from tearing up my studio for a gig. If you've already checked these, than some more info might help us help you (details as to your gear and what specifically you're trying to do and what you've already tried to remedy the problem).
Cheers,
n

Do you have a corresponding audio track set up for the MIDI instrument sound input, or do you just have a MIDI track set up? If it is the latter, you need to do the former.

This is going to sound REALLY basic, but it happened to me--
The master volume was turned down on one or more devices.

Did that happen when you were invisible?
Checked all of those options! Still no sound!

I've checked all of those options and there is no sound. I'm running a roland rs-5 keyboard thru a fastlane usb. When I push in the trhu button , I get sound trhu my headphones but there is no sound getting into DP 5.1 .
Any new Idea's ????

Maybe I misunderstood. Is MIDI data actually showing up in your tracks window when you record MIDI, or are you just getting sound? Your first post sounded like data was actually being recorded, but your last post sounds like nothing is going into DP. Could you clarify?
Sorry if I'm a little dense tonight. Long day...

MIDI data is being recorded but I can't hear it. I can see it on the tracks screen , but can't hear anything. When I push in the MIDI trhu switch on the motu fastlane, I can hear the keyboard thru the headphones but then nothing is being recorded. I have Dp 3.02 on my other computer and run all my hardware thru that the same way and everything's fine. So the problem has to be in Dp 5.1 on my new computer . Maybe something is not set right but I've checked everything I could think of.
Any help ???
PS: By the way thank you all for your help !

LOL-- as a matter of fact, yes!!
Matt--
Bundles have been rebuilt.
Bundles' INS and OUTS have been set.
Audio routing in Tracks Overview are accurately set to your interface's outputs.
You have all the right settings selected in Configure Audio Hardware Driver.
Volumes are turned up on all devices-- no mutes or solos are active on the MIXER.

Hmm.
MIDI is clearly getting INTO DP, and if you can hear sound on playback directly through the devices' headphone output then MIDI is indeed being sent OUT just fine......
Studio Menu> Audio Patch Thru: set to Auto?
Is there any AUDIO signal showing up anywhere at all?
Have you routed your outboard audio signals through an AUX track?
It occurs to me that we don't know much about your interface setup. Do you have a PCI Console or a FW Console? If so, what are those settings?
Where is your keyboard's audio output connected on your audio interface?
Other than that, I'm stumped. Time for me to swallow that Ring again.
Set up .

Mac intel core duo , Roland Rs-5 keyboard thru channels 1&2 of a moto 828 , MIDI in and out into a motu fastlane usb , into the mac intel on Dp5.1 . The MIDI is not heard on playback or when monitoring. It can be seen on the track as i record but nothing is heard. I used an analog track to record the MIDI I was seeing but nothing shows up.

Hey Matt--
For outboard gear, have you tried this? AUX Tracks are very important.
These are the steps for bringing the audio from your keyboards or other MIDI modules in Digital Performer. Don't alter your MIDI track: That will remain the same.
1. Plug the audio outputs from your keyboard into some inputs on your audio interface.
2. Make a Aux track. In DP 4, create an Aux Track by choosing "Project menu > Add Track > Aux Track".
3. Set the INPUT of this Aux track to the INPUTS on your MOTU audio interface that you plugged your keyboard into.
4. Set the OUTPUT of the Aux track to "Analog 1-2" or "Main Out 1-2".
This Aux Track lets you hear/mix/effect the output of your keyboard.

Matt, can you put up a screen shot of your DP window? It might help if we can see what you're seeing.
