Hey all,

I have tried to change the pitch by defining either the number of steps or the key to be changed in both the TRANSPOSE function and the SPECTRAL EFFECTS function but all I end up with when I play back the audio clip is a garbled representation of what the clip originally was. I REALLY need to change pitch on some clips - what am I doing wrong?

Depending on the source material, transposing in DP can really suck. IMHO the best way to transpose digital audio and retain audio integrity is to process it through Melodyne3. If you haven't heard it in action, prepare to have your turban spun

I use DP's pitch shifting and time stretching functions for incremental changes only. Beyond a certain point, they can sound diabolical. At least that's been my experience.

Thanks for the tip - I checked it out - I assume the price speaks for it! All I need is to change sound bytes to bring back into DP - the $199 version will do this on a stereo soundbyte?

Unfortunately no. Uno ($199) handles only mono material. As I understand it, Studio is the only one that handles stereo files, and I find it indispensable.

No doubt - I watched the Introduction video for this and it blew me away...my gosh, what you can do...I don't trust anyone to be able to sing on key anymore! : )

This is on my list. But one question - if the version you're talking about has 8 tracks....what does that mean?...Can I not just bring in a soundbyte, change it and export it to bring back into DP or do I have to work with it as a plug-in in DP?

Studio is the only Melodyne product I've ever used, so I don't know a lot about the other products, and what they can and can't do. Studio is the flagship product, and it has no limitations.

Hey Chamelion, while we're on the subject - I just bought Melodyne Cre8 v3.1 two days ago and as you said it goes way and way beyond all the others, the sound quality, the friendly interface and the musical intelligence of this program are unique.

I had actually purchased Cre8 v.2.6 two years ago, dabbled with it somewhat but in the end regretted having bought it for it was too complicated to use (for me) - it needed a rocket-science type brain (which I certainly don't have) to seriously get around that program.

All this has changed with v3.1 as I found out yesterday - either that or I must have become more... smart... or somethin' or the other.

It gets even better: the latest downloadable version (v3.1.0.5) of Cre8 also handles stereo-files, once the exclusive domain of their flagship "Studio" version - what got into their heads at Celemony's?

Mind you, stereowise, I only did some "auto-strectching" and tempo adjustments on a percussive loop from my aging JV1080's "world-card", but it was all in stereo on one stereo-track in Melodyne and it handled it beautifully - it must be noted however that stereo-files must be exported as "interleaved" and not as "split-stereo" otherwise DP will not import them, or just one half of it. Today, I'll most likely go for a deeper spin with Cre8 and try to do some stereo-pitch-transposing, who knows what will happen !?!


There is still one niggle even with this latest version, and it still hasn't gone away as yet; that is the functionality of the Melodynebridge in tandem with DP4.61 is just not happening. Of course there are workarounds but they are not equivalent to the sale's pitch heard on their web-presentation's video - and that's not so cool. Have you gotthe Melodynebridge to work as advertised? Perhaps that features functionality is still exclusively reserved to the Studio version - but it doesn't make sense.

Well, all in all I think/feel I did the right thing - I had a hundred euro's to spend and for weeks was breaking up my head trying to decide upon which NI's Anniversary-Specials I was going to treet myself to - in the end I went to Celemony's link which you posted above and saw the light!

I had an old version of AutoTune a while back and while it worked, often the audio was not really great after processing, you always lost something. Do you feel that this Melodyne product is as good as they say? In any case, better than AT?

I would like to have sonething in the studio that could help when occasionally a nudge here or there is needed...

I wish Magic Dave would chime in here. I don't want to spend money for a function that should work in DP natively.

Why can I select volume and pencil draw lines and curves for volume changes, but with pitch selected, I'll draw the line and once I release the mouse, it disappears?....Now I know it has worked in past versions, though inconsistently.

MOTU please enlighten us.
