Switcheroo

Edited:

Sorry, folks. One of the players on this jam I'd originally put up here requested that I take it down. We were pretty sloppy on this recording, myself included, and he preferred not to expose this mix to public scrutiny. So, in honor of that request, I have deleted the link. Thanks for your understanding.

Diaphonik... I agree with your comment about the snare. The reason I used the Yamaha verb is because I already have it. I'd love to have the Lexicon or AKG hardware you recommended. Thanks very much for the feedback.

Hi Jim
just listened your track...
i like this composition!
Maybe the snare is a bit "in front", i like the toms they pulse just good to me.
I think the reverb on your Yamaha o1V is a dsp, you should try a meaty one, like the Lexicon 200 (I think a EMT 140 would be great for your drum sound here, or AKG BX10 / BX20).

peace

Here's a "consolation" mix I recorded & mixed last night. The music is from a MIDI file I found on the web (composition by John McLaughlin):

__ LINK DELETED - OFFLINE __

I can't take credit for the music (although I accept the blame for playing it in my own style). If you want to comment on the drum mix, I await your input.

Hi Jim

I've just listened this "replacement" track...
I would say the same about it as i said for the other track: i feel the snare a bit "in front", and there's too much reverb compared to the others drums elements...
I would have liked to hear more the guitar tracks, with and more "edgy" sound...but this just my opinion of course.
you did that in one night!!! that's a good job for so few time to work on.

peace

I think you're right about my snare reverb... I overcompensated to put a tail back on it after I gated. I probably overcompensated in volume, too.

I just did the drums recording and mix in one evening. I had already had the MIDI parts orchestrated and levels & effects set, and I already knew the music. My project studio is permanently set up for recording: All I have to do is boot, launch DP, set up my project or open a template, and press record.

Thanks again, Diaphonik.
