Can I use a 2408 mkII as a standalone A/D converter to add 8 more channels via ADAT lightpipe to an 828 mkII?

If so, how would I sync the wordclock?

Yes you can use the 2408 as a stand alone unit.

And the MOTU unit doesn't have ADAT sync connection, so you don't have "wordclock". I just use the "internal" clock on my 2408 the master and have no trouble using the ADAT inputs.
