audio playback problems
Hi there
I've just joined the community so bear with me.... I'm currently using a G4 MAC running under OS9 with DP3.11 running through an 828MK 2 inconjunction with a Spirit 328 Digital....
Now... up till this morning I have had very few problems with this set up... but somehow.... and I don't know what I've done.... the audio recorded seems to be playing back 'slowed down'
I guess this is something to do with Clock source or something.... afraid I'm still learning this whole set up so excuse my poor lingo at this point...
anyway... this is how i've been using it so far.... 8 channels of ADAT on the Spirit 328 (channels 17-25) from the 828, 8 channels of analogue audio out of the 828 into the 328 (channels 8-16).
I did have the clock running through the SPDIF on the desk and the 828.... but now it doesn't seem to want to play ball. I can run the clock source through the ADAT but the audio is still slow....
I'm sure its relatively simple problem as I've been recording over the past week without hitch....
Any ideas, solutions or advice would be greatfully recieved....
thanks

Re: audio playback problems
Did you record at 48 K ? You might want to check the clock source sample rate first... Maybe it plays at 44.1 for some reason...

now that it's recorded at 48k (presumably), you might have to CONVERT the soundbites to 44.1k. Or change the session to 48k. Is the 'hardware' button blinking red? Are there red slashes through the soundbites in the soundbite window?

I see. Well then, in Hardware Setup, what is listed as the clock source? It should be the same as when you recorded it, if possible. Perhaps, if the ADAT was the Master clock when you recorded it, you must keep it that way for subsequent playback. Or the Spirit. Sorry if this isn't appropriate. It's the best I can do from your post.

no thats fine... sorry i'm a bit new to all this still... really appreciate your help though.
I was using the spdif for the clock source... and had it set up perfectly but that doesn't seem to wanna work now.... when i put the desk into spdif clock source... it says it can't find a source and reverts to the internal clock on the desk.... spdif is selected in the 828 firewire panel.... so not sure how to remedy it??

So when it did work, the spdif was coming from the desk into the 828? And of course, the cables are still connected. hmmmm.
What confuses me, is that there is the spot, in DP's Hardware Configuration menu, where you set the Clock Source. So that was set to spdif, and the (lightpipe?) output of the desk was plugged into the lightpipe input of the 828? Is there something on the 828's FirewireAudio Control Panel that chooses whether it looks for spdif at the lightpipe in, or the coaxial in, or the rca in? Sorry, I don't have an 828. Just a thought: maybe it's now been set on the computer to look for spdif at a different input connection on the back of the 828. Just a guess really. Well, I'm gonna try to get back to bed now. The nyc sun is rising...Good luck.
