Single clicking the pencil to insert single breakpoints will lock to grid. When drawing (holding the mouse button) there is no lock to grid.
Dragging a breakpoint or adding new points to an existing line with the pointing finger can lock to grid.

Ok thanks Tim, I'll have to experiment with the functions and see what'll do for my purposes. I think there definitely should be a snap to grid function for edit points when drawing parabolas etc or using free hand drawing.

what about turning on the "beat grid toggle"? works fine here:

But I thought that was done by the Grid Toggle and not the beat toggle. The beat toggle is only good when you're doing something over a soundbite so it's snapping to beats found by the beat-detection engine. (DP5's manual p.629)[/quote]

I can't get this to work. I have the snap to grid option on and the notes snap but the automation doesn't. I can't find any mention about automation snapping to grid in the manual either, except for that beat grid thing.

Hi Bleen,
I think that is only for automation data in the sequence window, not automation in the MIDI window and that's what I'm after.

"MIDI window"? That's the first time you've mentioned MIDI in this thread.
Switch the parameter you want to automate on the track, be it audio or MIDI, and the process is the same.
