Help with recording purchase

Greetings Everyone,
First post here, hopefully the people here can help with my dilemma.

We currently are looking at picking up a piece of rack gear for
recording. Our mixer is analog (Behr MX3282), so I don't *think* ADAT
lightpipe or TDIF or other connections are going to be part of the
decision. Currently I am looking at going one of two routes (both Ebay
items)

Motu 24i - 24 inputs, no outputs. Maximum amount of simultaneous
inputs in one rack space

(2) Motu 2408 - 16 inputs/Outputs (total) Less inputs, but gives the
ability to have outputs

Also with the 2408, I am not sure this is possible, but I would like
something that would allow me to send the recorded channels back out
to the mixer, so I might use it as a mixing teacher for new techs.

Thoughts?
