Home studio...

I'm just going to lay it down:
I want my own studio. I've got a 60x70ft room with wood floors, and valted ceilings. I know this is going to be a lot of work, but it'll be fun.
I'm not financially limited, but I don't need the best setup in the world, just the best for me. I need the ability to record 24 simotanious tracks, mix, master, and listen to the finished product all in the same room.
And suggestions?

Both of those practices require different types of monitoring environments.
Can you elaborate more on what you're trying to accomplish?
(i.e. will this be a business, or is this for personal projects?)
We can all help you get in the ballpark of starting out, but you're the only one that will know what is the "best for you."

It is not that hard. I started ouyt with a Mac G5. I added a MOTU 2408mk3 for the convertor and a Tascam US-2400 for the board. For software I went with Nuendo 3, but you may want to use something not a elaborate. Nuendo does audio and viedio. I added a couple of PreSonus Digimax LTs and a Universal Audio 6176. Monitors are not that big of a deal. You can get a good pair for about $1500.00. I also recommend a couple of pairs of ByerDynamic DT770 headphones.

For a second I thought you wrote A large gong.... why would a large gong effect where you live?

I use old EarthLink and AOL cds as drink coasters. You know by the time you buy all that gear and fix up the room you have to cut costs somewhere. Also using panty hose on hangers for microphone wind screens can save some cash as well.

Wherever you live, a wide selection of cowbells. And Bruce Dickenson on retainer.
