896 unit loosing inputs!!! HELP!

896 unit loosing inputs!!! HELP!
Hello, Well I've searched around and it seems when inputs fail on these units, they have to be sent back to MOTU and ive only heard horror stories when it comes to that. I bought my 896 (non HD) second hand, so its not under warranty, and the unit was working fine up until a few days ago when all of a sudden input 8 stopped working... then 4, then 1. Now, input 1 has some life in it if you mess around with the gain knob, u get some static, other than that, they are all dead. Now my question would be, 1) is there ANY way to fix the unit, or something I am overlooking that wouldn't involve sending it back to MOTU 2) is there something else that I could say daisy chain with the 896 to give me more inputs (so I atleast have 8 again). I dont mind using the 5 remaining inputs, but I atleast need 8 and I dont want to give the unit up. Anyone have any ideas???? thanks!
