DI or not?

Post by Obscure Object »

just a quick question .... I have a cheap digitech multi-effects pedal for my guitar .... is the out of that kind of units line level? .... in other words, can i connect the out of the pedal directly to one of my line inputs on my traveller? ... or do i still have to use a DI on it?? ... thanx in advance

You're much better off using a DI.

But the Traveler does have Instrument inputs, so it should be OK...

Well, for that matter, you can plug anything into anything and get some signal. The point isn't what works, but what is optimal.

I bought an Avalon U5 DI/preamp (mono) last year and have found it has made a 400% improvement in sonic fidelity for high impedance signals that I had previously plugged directly into a console or recording unit.

Any "class A" circuitry that is well-designed should achieve a similar purpose. I chose the Avalon over the Countryman or other floor-pedal-shaped DI's because I use it as my live bass pre-amp as well as a studio DI. That more than compensated for the extra cost.
