G4 Mac will NOT shut down UNLESS MTP/AV/USB is turned ON?

I have a G4 933 Quick Silver that will not shut down if the MTP/AV/USB is connected and not powered up. If I turn the MTP on, the Mac will shut down properly. Then of course I turn the MTP off. Of course this presents a problem IF I'm not using the MTP etc. I have to turn it on, so I can shut everything else down! Is there anyone who knows what's going on with this?
Is this normal, or am I looking at a repair?
Thanks Geo :?:

Have a look into the Console (Utilities folder) and on the left side of the window there is, I think, a Systems section. Hit Clear and try to shut down your machine and see exactly what the error could be.
Have you tried the usual maintenance routines: repair permissions, cron scripts, empty caches, etc? And run Disk Warrior from a boot CD or a different drive? Do you have the latest drivers? What version of OSX are you using?

This unfortunately is 'normal'..... I had this with my G4 733.... It used to drive me spare until I discovered what caused it. Are you on OS9? Anyway, nothing to worry about, either leave it on, or unplug it........

you are not alone......
