Have you raised your buffers? This always helps me when loading multiple VIs. For latency, try using CueMix if you have it.

You also should factor in RAM (if you're loading samples in conventionally) or hard drive speed (if you're streaming samples). Moreover, compounded UVI processing effects within M5 can sometimes tax your procs.

That said, my experience has been that G5s handle VIs and soft samplers much more efficiently than G4s. If it's within your budget to upgrade, you'll definitely benefit from the step.

Chris is right. The faster bus speeds and the faster RAM speed of G5's are among the biggest benefits in this regard. Two instances of Altiverb sent my old G4 into virtual meltdown.

my buffer size is 512 which is the highest dp will let me go (higher ones are greyed out). is there anything else i can do? just got this g4 so upgrading to g5 is not an option right now. i am using machv sounds, not importing anything from outside the program. thanks.

i use the M5's PC Version,i found the effects have many bugs turn up your cpu to 99% still waiting for the version V2 ,but i advice fixed those problem's for V1 user first
if you want it works ,don't use M5's effects.
