G'day, I'm slowly moving towards MOTU gear (over Digidesign) & will set-up 5.1 mixing environment for both PT's & DP (with 2408 & 1224). Check out the Mackie d8b digital consoles. They work in HUI mode ofr DAW's as well as lots of other really nice features. Won't break the bank either. They retail for around $20k AUD.

The 2408 actually has 24 outputs. One set of eight analogue and two sets of ADAT. To use 16 outputs you need to use one of the ADAT outputs to an ADAT to Analogue converter, which can be had from Behringer for very little money. It will also give you eight additional analogue inputs using the ADAT inputs.

in fact you have 3xadat/tdif(thats 3x8 tracks) I/Os you can choose which one you wish to use
&8xanalog I/O =>makes 32 I/Os
BUT:
you can use 24 I/Os at the same time....so you have to decide if you want
adat adat adat or
tdif tdif tdif or
adat adat analog or
adat tdif analog

You are right. I stand corrected. Three ADAT I/O PLUS one 8 channel analogue I/O.
Sorry about that...
In actuality the ADAT and TDIF outputs are in "parallel" so there are actually 48 digital and 8 analogue outputs and 32 digital and 8 analogue inputs.
I missed it by a mile...
