Kontakt or Mach 5?

Post by vegasmich »

Need a soft sampler. Anybody could give advice? Kontakt or Mach 5? Im currently working with DP4.5. I know the library included with Kontakt is better.

Thanks>

What do you want to do with it?

I have both and IMHO K2 wins hands down in virtually all areas including speed, ease of use, performance, features (scripting, keyswitching etc) and compatability - ie the VSL horizon series (as well as the included content which is very decent in its own right) ....

But having said that neither has given any problems and I do use M5 a lot for making my own programs.

That's all....

Yeah, if you don't have any fixed criteria for purchase judgment, get the least expensive choice.

Kontakt and Mack5 are both limited by DPs 32-bit addressing, meaning you can••™t load more than 3.5 GB of samples, total••¦ for people who do lots of trks or symphonic works, with VSL and such, it••™s a nightmare••¦ perhaps long anticipated DP5 will embrace 64-bit••¦, we••™ll see••¦

Thanks for pointing out that side effect of 32 bit addressing limiting the size of samples; that hadn't occurred to me.

Do you know off-hand if this limitation is lifted by all 64-bit DAW's or just ones that are "native" 64-bit, like the (alas) Windows-only Sonar 5?
