Using the Traveler (fw 1.05) under WinXP sp2, and am getting problems with the SPDIF input. Even when there is nothing plugged into the SPDIF input I'm getting varying levels showing on the meters, they mostly clip but occasionally move around. It happens whenever the unit has been on for a while, maybe 30mins or more.

Am usually using the Traveler in a live theatre/concert hall environment so tend to be lots of radiomics about, wondered if the SPDIF input might be somehow picking be up the tranmission? Seems like a wild idea, but other than the unit being faulty or gain problems on the input, I can't work out what it could be?

Anyone else had similar issues, or can suggest anything?

Discussions have come up here recently, regarding heat issues with MOTU interfaces. The fact that it's doing it after it's been on for a while might point to that, so you should probably play it safe and try to get it some additional airflow or space if you can, then see if it keeps doing it. I've seen Nuendo posts about MOTU's whose clocks started acting up after they got hot.

I'm assuming you don't actually have S/PDIF busses active in any of the software configs, since you're not using it, and that you're not on any external clock source?

I've had similar full volume noise bursts on digital ports, if I've turned off the sending device while the receiving one had been using it. (unwise)

Heat - could well be the answer!

The SPDIF busses are muted on the Traveler, and it's using it's own clock, it even occurs when there's nothing plugged in - again pointing to heat.

It usually sits underneath my laptop, so I'll try leaving the unit switched on standing on it's own for a while and see what happens.
