Radical Notion: MachFive V2 should be free w/ DP5

In my opinion, MachFive V2 should be free, bundled with DP5. It's only a sampler utility after all --- a way to move audio data around conveniently and musically --- and you get one free with Logic. This would create more incentive for people to move over to DP as a platform.

It's 2006, y'know? Samplers are no big deal.

It's a nice little utility, but what it's doing isn't that exotic anymore in the world of DAWs. Samplers should be free. Pitching audio up and down is just not that amazing of a trick, when you consider, say, the modern miracle of convolution reverb, etc.

That's my opinion. I use MachFive and Kontakt 2. I use MachFive to roll my own samples and Kontakt 2 for its extensive library (including 3rd party libraries) and easy access. I like them both, but I don't think either one of them is worth the money.

Apple/Logic got it right: samplers should be free.

I couldn't agree more. In fact I think every computer should come preloaded with all of Apple's high end software; every refrigerator should come fully loaded with all the food I like, my aprtment should be completely furnished (and don't skimp on the grand piano), and when I open a bank account I not only want it to be free, but I want a gift deposit for my paticipation in an amount that is just slightly more than the FDIC can insure for a single depositor.

DId I mention I want more hair (and no more of this grey crap), less fat and the cutest, smartest babes chasing me down?

OK, OK, I know, that's a little greedy. So the babes don't have to be that smart, BUT NO ROPERS!

dude, I don't agree. MachFive LE maybe, but MachFive is like having a DAW inside a DAW.

You guys are aware that Logic comes with a free sampler, right?

Isn't a "mini" sampler included with DP5?

Holds a single sound or something....

btw, I don't think Mach5 should be bundled free with DP

yes it's called 'nano sampler' I think

sounds cool although perhaps a bit too minimal - have to wait and try it first - but I think something along the lines of OSR would have been better (which can be used as a simple 'no features' sampler holding 128 samples - one for each MIDI note).

BTW I also think it's great of motu to allow people to buy DP on it's own without having to pay for a sampler they don't want! (to turn beautypill's argument on its head :D )

As it is people can choose their own sampler(s) .....or maybe not have one at all

Yes, but as MIDI Life Crisis points out, Logic is quite a bit more expensive than DP, and I'll add the point the EXS sampler can only be used in Logic.

MachFive, OTOH, can be used in both DP and Logic. So are you advocating that MOTU make MachFive a DP only sampler?

Well, I think I've figured out that I'm in the minority here. But I still think that the Logic concept (that a sampler is just one basic and standard tool within a DAW) is more right-on. I hadn't thought about the price differential --- which is a good point --- but conceptually, I still think the Logic thing makes more sense. Samplers are not exotic or specialized tools anymore the way they once were.

But obviously you guys disagree. That's cool.

Cheers,

Chad

I also like that fact that having bought Mach5 I can use it in both DP and PT, along with all my other third party VIs

I really prefer having a less expensive basic sequencer to which I can then add whatever sampler I would like. The problem with having them bundled is that you lose choice, while still paying for the sampler. As MIDI LC pointed out, that sampler in LP7 is *not* free. You're just forced to buy it if you buy LP7.

I have a better idea. Machfive V2 should be a free upgrade for everyone, as Motu have really disapointed us on this one and have not deliveried

Considering the first two upgrades were free, I doubt that will happen. Similarly, there were a few free DP upgrades as well.

I for one do not mind coughing up a few more bucks and don't really see what the big deal of actually paying for something is. Freebies can addictive but in the end, you get what you pay for.

even *more* radical notion...
MachFive V2 - which premiered, ,I believe, at the 2005 Winter NAMM show (14 months ago) - should actually exist!!
