Groups in Mach 5

I've been "using" Mach 5 since it came out. I'm a registered user who has read and re-read the manual, but the truth is I don't have a clue what I'm doing.
Now for those who are rolling their eyes into the back of their head right now, please exit this post and no hard feelings. I'll wait a second while you close out.
Ok, now that they're gone, I'll press on.
If you're interested in helping me figure some things out, please read on and please help if you will....

Among many things, I want to create a group (or at least I think that's what I THINK I need to do). What I'm trying to do is import all types of articulations, dynamics, etc. so that I can use patch changes to switch between them. Make sense?

So, here's what I do
I import my trumpet SFZ samples (F#3-Bwhatever). I choose Note Name. It imports the samples. I go to the list/group editor and make the SFZ samples Edit group A. Is that correct so far?

Now, I repeat the above process and import the Trumpet Staccato and I make it Edit Group B and so on until I've imported all of the trumpet samples I want to use.

Is that all there is to it? For me, the manual in all its brevity really doesn't explain things clearly. As, I'm sure, they're assuming that I understand the ins and outs of samplers. Me not knowing crap isn't their fault.

If anyone can look this over and tell me if I'm doing this right or if I'm missing a step I would REALLY appreciate it. I'm sure other questions will follow.
Thanks!

What you trying to do won't work.
You want a sample switches from legato to staccato in the same patch, correct?

The only way to switch from one sample to another is through velocity not articulation.

Ex. If you have 10 samples of C3 note, 5 legato and 5 staccato, you have to set 5 velocity levels of legato samples from say..1-64
and another 5 levels of 65-127 for staccato.
Then play a C3 note on your keyboard accordingly.

The grouping is for assigning synth parameters, outputs to FX, Hihat group...

(If this is not correct, please don't hold me accountable for the unfound WMD.) :D

hmmm:
Can you point me toward a page in the manual on this? Or, can you provide a step-by-step example of how to do this (your example is good, I just need a little more how-to information.
Thanks for your help!

Let me clarify....Do I have to load each and every sample individually or can I mass copy/drag to the sampler? And do I select velocity instead of note name when prompted? I've selected velocity in previous experiments and the samples are horrible -- sustained trombone sound like bass pizzicatos! With note name, they sound like sustained trombones.

Keygroup Mapper on page 58 is where you should read.
Actually Mach5 manual is a lot easier to understand than the others.

You can drag & drop a group of samples on the keyboard and select velocity.

Which one that makes you job easier, use it.
I don't know why it happened to you. My guess is it has to do with the name of samples.
You probably have a cross velocity, 2 notes playing at the same time.
Check out the naming scheme on p.63.

Nonetheless, you can edit individual sample till everything is ok which you should do it any way.
The bulk sample import is not that smart no matter which samplers you use be it Kontakt, Mach5 or whatever.

Thanks. I'll re-read starting at Page 58 and experiment some more.
