Kirk Hunter Diamond Symphony

It's 85% off for the next 13 days. I got some KH strings a few years backs at a previous sale, and didn't find them that useful but I know a lot people think they're great. Boils down to $75 for 45G of samples so there's at least quantity.

Yes, I saw that. Does anyone know how it compares with the Concert Strings series? Is there any real difference?

I had hoped to find some discussion at vi-control, but so far no buzz. I simply don't have time, between two travel periods, to hunt down (no pun intended) the history and status of KH libs, as the main website didn't seem useful in that regard.

Is this their ancient stuff from the 80's/90's, somewhat later stuff, or their most recent library?

There is a comparison on the site. Go to the details on any instrument and scroll down, and there is a description of each library and how it differs from the others. Not included in this is the list of instruments included, but that's available in the details for each.

Yes, that's why I said what I said about the string lib I have from KH. It sounds a bit gritty to me too. Apparently, KH has taken some trouble to make it sound the way it does.

Trackspacer 2.5.1 Out—25% off this week

Post by Rick Cornish »

For those who have it, there's a free update available to Trackspacer with the following improvements…
Trackspacer has been ported to a new framework, coded from the ground-up in order to keep it simple for making regular updates and improvements. The #1 request we’ve got since its original release has been lowering the CPU consumption, and that’s what we’ve done in this update. We also re-created the whole UI from scratch, making it bigger (600 x 600 instead of 400 x 400) making it suitable for modern displays.

There is only one installer now instead of a different binary for demo and full versions. When installing the demo you’ll be able to enter the serial number at anytime and turn it to the full version without having to install anything else.

And of course, we fixed all known bugs too!
The new version can coexist with the old one, so if you have it on old tracks, you won't lose what you have going.

For those who don't have it, Trackspacer is the ultimate sidechaining plugin (IMHO). It's 25% off this week.

Rick, I listened to some demos of this plugin. Seems like a good idea, but it looks like Trackspacer responds continuously to the sidechain, rather than averaging it over time. If the sidechain's frequency content changes, the suppression of frequencies in the target track also changes constantly. In the demo I listened to, it sounded strange. How do you use this plugin in everyday situations?

Hey Bayswater—Yes—I use it all the time—most commonly, I use it to duck a bass out of the way of a kick drum (or vice-versa). Rather than just turning down the whole track when the sidechain signal hits threshold, it only attenuates the conflicting frequencies, which actually gets the track out of the way better and in a more transparent fashion. I also use it when mixing voice-over with music for a video soundtrack (more like a ducker), which works great at suppressing where the music conflicts with the presence frequencies of the spoken voice. And—if it’s working too hard—you can tune the response with the high and low pass filters.

Thanks. I'll dl the demo.

Hmmmm... sounds like a really cool way to do this. I have to try this soon as I can!

I also use it regularly. I recently did a mix of an acoustic guitar and vocal track where I controlled the guitar with the vocal. I don't use it with high percentage levels - around 20-30, and I experiment with the A/R times. I often get very nice results. It can also be quite interesting on Return Effects.

Nice idea... I will try that.

2 Free Plug-ins from Plug-in Boutique

Post by Rick Cornish »

We’ve all been getting a rash of emails from plugin purveyors “across the pond” to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), that goes into effect in a couple weeks.

Plugin Boutique has taken the opportunity to thank people for opting-in to their email list by giving away two free plugins: Air Music Technology Hybrid 3 and SoundSpot Nebula.

All you have to do is opt-in to their mailing list.
