I have been able to repeat about a third of the bugs reported here. The rest isn't happening here. I expect a lot of them will be addressed in 9.01. While there are new bugs you'll also see reports of old bugs cleared. For me DP 9 feels more responsive. I don't see as much lag and choppiness in the UI. The new features may or may not interest any specific user. About half are good news to me.
Not a ringing endorsement but I think 9 is ok and will get better.

I will add that it is possible I am getting more milage out of 128 buffers. I wrote earlier that the CPU indicator seemed higher, but I am really pushing the system and staying at 128 for the most part with lots of guitars and VIs.
So that may be a positive. On the negative though, MOTU needs to just scrap that useless memory meter. It is more like a toy than anything useful. And for god’s sake can someone please explain to me why DP’s meter can be SLAMMED in the RED when I have TWELVE cores running low memory amounts with only a couple being in the 40% range?

Most useful thing about it for me is that I don't have to hear about it on this board anymore. People can move on to a different feature they feel is lacking.

Nice one - that made me smile on a bad day.........

I rarely LOL at a post, but that one caught me off guard!

DP works over so many operating systems, at least on the Mac.. I'll bet DP9 still works on Snow Leopard, no? Could explain your 1/3 theory.. it's about the same over here.

Nothing much to say. As bugs are reported here, I've tried to reproduce them. Usually, they don't happen. I've had no crashes. One bug that I can reproduce consistently, no one else can: not being able to delete automation events in the main lane. And I can only get it on my MBP. Not on my iMac.
I did a clean install of Yosemite on the iMac -- maybe that helped. It seemed to make a lot of things, except TurboCad, work better.

I've decided to get brave and install DP9 tonight.
The long-drawn-out album project I've been prioritizing while sneaking in my own stuff this past half year, only needs level-balancing of its final stems, so if worse comes to worse I can import those into something else. I actually want to use some of the new features and plugs at this stage, which is why I'm doing the upgrade now.
The project I will be opening probably has over 1000 sound bytes, and though I always disable every plug-in after rendering, I must have 10,000 plug-in instances (or more). Maybe I'll be the first to test the limits of DP9?
TBH, reports that projects open faster is enough for me to not procrastinate on this, as the project I just mentioned takes several minutes to load, which isn't fun in front of clients.

Awesomeness! The installation was quick and easy, and the mega-project only took 30 seconds to load all its sound bytes and be ready for editing!
Normally that project takes 5-8 minutes to load.
Now I will feel safe in quitting and restarting DP more frequently when clients are present, as I consider that a good practice to increase memory cleanup and other performance issues.
The only annoyance I notice so far is the new Track Overview look. I think it has to do with automation lanes, but I do prefer to see the wave forms prominently. This might be the push I need to make the Sequence View my primary working window though vs. my secondary mode.

Try adding a volume point.

I then updated to OS X 10.10.3, and that seemed to have taken care of the problem, but tonite as I went into a couple projects, the same non-response on MIDI channels has surfaced again....weird...
I couldn't change or even assign MIDI channels!! The pull down menus for MIDI channels show MIDI assignments but are unchangable....What???? I then re started computer and DP and it worked...strange.
I hadn't seen this happening before, but it happened this morning while I was trying to reproduce some bugs in automation writing. The menus (in any location: mixer, TO, SE) for assigning MIDI ins and out became unresponsive, including the ability to assign MIDI output to a VI. Quitting and opening the same project in V8 worked, and then subsequently opening it again in V9 worked. Starting from scratch with a new project also worked.

Yes, this one is a show stopper. Losing the ability to route MIDI halfway through a project is too big a risk.

May be overreach. May be reach around. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. All I know is I'm out $200 and I'm still using DP8 with IT'S existing bugs. Annoying at the very least.
I love the new features but not at the expense of basic functionality. Not a good omen, IMO.

I stayed on the demo. Guess we wait for 9.01. Too bad. It was coming along nicely to this point.
